Fed Up With School Lunch: A teacher blogs anonymously about school lunches

One brave  teacher has had it with the food served to Illinois school kids and she has decided to do something about it.

Since the beginning of January 2010, an anonymous teacher has been eating the school lunch every day. On her blog Fed Up with School Lunch, she posts a photograph and shares her thoughts on the lunch fare du jour.

In the few short weeks that she has been blogging, this teacher has become something of an internet sensation.

Recent meals include an absolutely horrifying bowl of  chili, a sad hot dog, and green beans that will make you want to cry. The anonymous “Mrs. Q.” tackles issues like the high fructose corn syrup in the milk and the fact that the kids only really end up having 12-13 minutes to eat so most of their meal ends up in the garbage.

Regardless of whether or not your child attends a public or private school or brings lunch from home, this blog is a must-read for Chicago parents. If you weren’t interested in the push to increase funds available for school lunches in The Child Nutrition Act Reauthorization Act before, my guess is that one look at this blog will change your mind.

  • Wow...scary!!! I make lunch for my kids everyday--basically, because I have heard the horror stries about school lunch from my wife (a long time teacher). I have to be doing better than that stuff....???

  • Thanks for the article. Mrs. Q is doing great work and we love how she presents the issue. If you want to see some Chicago students and how they created a healthy school lunch (and tasty I may add) take a look at Healthy Schools Campaign here: http://bit.ly/93wErV

Thanks for the link Mark. The Healthy Schools Campaign does such great work on this issue.

I just received this week's Newsweek in the mail with Michelle Obama's cover story on her anti-obesity campaign. I am looking forward to reading more about her take on the issue.
