It used to be fun when I wrote: For Love or Money… Marry, Stay, Date, heck it’s all relative! Love and Money are two paramount factors in relationships. Listening to people converse over why one is more important or why without both the love ship would sink was pure entertainment to me.
I think it’s a rather simple balance but we all know I’m a paradox so my experiences are more specific than the masses will appease. But today, we’re faced with more than just the decision of why to get involved or stay involved with a love interest, or even spouse.
Today we’re faced with staying after unforgivable offenses.
Today, ladies I ask, when a man beats you, are you willing to forgive and stay? How do you move on? What exactly do you do next?
Social media was set ablaze Monday when it was reported that Ray Rice would be released from his team after good old faithful TMZ pushed play on the full tape of him knocking his then fiancée out cold!
If you watch closely, it appears that Rice spat in the woman’s face and then she swung at him before they entered the elevator.
Once inside the elevator, it was a brutal and unwarranted blow to Janay Palmer’s face that resulted in her hitting her head on the elevator rail before blacking out on the floor. Utter disgust and outrage permeated; there was no doubt about the brutality. Reminds me of the film, “He Got Game,” where Denzel Washington’s character struck his wife and accidentally killed her. In that film, Washington’s brutality landed him on death-row rather quickly.
Back to the brutality of the Ray Rice video: And then she married him.
She’s engaged to a millionaire who’s since increased her quality of life. He’s sorry. He buys trinkets and diamonds to make the boo-boo a mere misunderstanding. Take that Grand Jury! They’re in love and she’s right by his side a la Kobe & Vanessa, but, this is not infidelity. This is blunt force trauma to the head and this could have been deadly.
Career ending blow? Damn right. Quick tip, America, human life matters. Like the dogs Mike Vick was convicted for, Ray Rice should get 10 years for each second she was unconscious and shoeless, on video, in addition to the original sentence his offense carries.
Just so we’re clear, he punched her out cold, her head hit two damaging surfaces and she was unresponsive, but he did pick up her flip flops, so that helps *insert side eye
There is no dollar amount on dignity. We never know what blow will be the last.
My hope is that any woman watching this video at home as she is beaten in silence knows that the only way out is the way you make. My other hope is that she doesn’t stick around for bags and matching shoes.
