Sitting here sipping my Baileys spiked hot chocolate. Faintly in the back of my mind I wish I wasn’t single.
(*cues The Emotions – What Do the Lonely Do at Christmas?)
We all can attest that no matter what religion or lack thereof one may practice, the holiday season is a time to be enjoyed with loved ones.
Not having a partner or missing someone will hurt that much more deeply during these frigid months.
In light of being a spoken word artist and poet by nature, I decided to write myself a love letter. Knowing I’m not the only one out here who may feel a way at this time, I want to dedicate this love letter to the lonely.
This love letter isn’t romantic; instead, it’s about loving life at its fullest.
First and foremost, you’re beautiful. You’re worthy and capable. Though your lover has yet to emerge, you are lovable with vast ability for desire.
Be your own companion right now.
Volunteer. Give back to those less fortunate. Mentor a youth in distress. Get busy. Read to seniors. Show love wherever you can as often as allowed.
Take these moments to share with friends.
Write, by hand, letters to your friends and family out of state.
Utilize this time to explore yourself with hobbies and read!
Grab a book, a comfy blanket and get lost in a literary world.
This love letter is about appreciating what you have without focusing on what’s missing. Being alone may not be easy, but it’s worth it for you not to settle.
Love yourself first. Love yourself in your glorious entirety. And if there be any ill, any hurt or areas that need your attention and yours alone, focus on this now.
When love appears, I will be ready; 100% secure and prepared to bare the heart of one I’m designed for. I’m alone, sure. Sometimes I feel lonely, yes. But I am not sad or downtrodden.
I will live life to its fullest in every hour I’m granted a breath to breathe. My hope is that you do the same.
