To tip or not to tip, that is the question: my dilemma with the pizza deliverer
Is the delivery fee the tip? Please share!
I didn't give my pizza deliverer a tip, but then wondered if I was supposed to. Do you?

I didn’t give my pizza deliverer a tip, but then wondered if I was supposed to. Do you?

Before debit cards and cell phones, when we ordered a pizza, we called from our home phones (because those were the only phones we had), and then we rushed to the door with excitement and cash, graciously including a tip.  It was the way of the world.

Well, everything’s changed now.

If you order frequently, your information is automatically saved in the system, which one would think when you called they would greet you by name and be excited for your repeated patronage. Then, you give your credit or debit card info, and voila! Minutes later…life 40 or so…your pizza arrives.  However, when you place your order, there’s an automatic delivery charge included.

Is that the tip?

I never really thought about it because my husband usually calls and goes to the door when it’s delivered. (He thinks I’m spoiled. I call it a night off).  But tonight, as I scarf down this pizza on my husband’s late night at work, the girls and I opted for pizza and I was glad about it. After a beautiful day like today, I was glad not to have to cook. But when the delivery guy came and I signed my receipt, he had such a look of something, I’m not sure what, on his face, that I wondered if I was supposed to add cash or write in a tip.

Do you tip the person who delivers your pizza?  Is the delivery fee the tip?

Life is interesting isn’t it? We have a lot of modern day conveniences that make things more efficient and streamlined and yet we still don’t know the answer to mundane trivialities that add value and pizzazz.

    Elana Anthony

I am a wife and mother blessed to have six daughters who fill my home with love and laughter. My passion is writing and teaching, but most especially inspiring people to live healthy lives in my faith-filled fitness classes. My dream is to have my own faith and fitness TV show where people from all the world collectively join together on our "temple" building project of enjoying optimal health. I am a certified group fitness instructor by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), and earned graduate degrees in Writing from DePaul University, in addition to a degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from the California University of Pennsylvania. I have seen and experienced the hand of God work and move in my life, and consider it an honor and blessing to be saved to serve.
