Javy’s first grand slam
Pitchers coming from left field
Cubs win in fifteen

It took 15 innings and required contributions from everyone on the roster except Arrieta, Lackey and Hendricks. But almost 5 hours after the game started with a Ben Zobrist home run, the Cubs beat the Reds 7-2 .

The game was effectively over when Javier Baez blasted his first career grand slam deep to center field, but wasn’t officially over until Travis Wood moved from left field back to the mound to finish the game in the bottom of the 15th.

How strange was this game?

– Pedro Strop played an inning in left field

– Jason Hammel pinch hit in the 15th

– Travis Wood was brought in to play left in the 13th inning, then pitched to one batter in the 14th before returning to left. before returning to the mound to pitch the 15th

– Spencer Patton got his first win for the Cubs, facing one batter in the 14th before switching places with Travis Wood for one batter then returning to the mound from left field to finish off the 14th inning.

22 players
8 Cubs pitchers on the mound
3 pitchers in left

I’m just glad I wasn’t keeping score.
