Welcome to ChicagoNow 2.0 - and CTA Tattler 7.0

Welcome to newly redesigned ChicagoNow family of blogs – and to CTA Tattler in particular.

On June 10 I celebrated my seventh year blogging on all things seen and heard on the CTA. Plus, it’s been two years now with ChicagoNow. I’m proud to be one of the first bloggers here back in the summer of 2009.

You may have noticed a new look for the CTA Tattler logo. Special thanks to Joshua Hauth for designing the logo.

There are a few more things you should know before you continue browsing ChicagoNow and commenting here at CTA Tattler:

  • If you subscribe to get CTA Tattler to your email box, you will have to resubscribe. I will let you know when the subscribe function is working here in new site.
  • All user profile pages are being eliminated. You will have to recreate your display names. As for user pics, you have two options:
  1. You can login through Facebook, in which case your Facebook image will be attached to their account.
  2. Also, you can go to Gravatar.com and set up an account with the email address attached to your ChicagoNow account. This will automatically link up your Gravatar image to you CN account.

Final important note on commenting

In general, you folks have been great on commenting — that is, you’ve thoughtful, on point, and respectful. But on rare occasions, this is not always true.

Therefore, comments that contain personal attacks will be deleted. Feel free to challenge the ideas of those with whom you disagree, not the posters themselves. Please be respectful. Make sure your comments or postings are not harmful and do not ridicule another person. Repeated violators will be banned.

Above all, thank you for reading CTA Tattler.

  • I assume there's nothing you can do about the lack of a full RSS feed, but it sure would be nice to have it back.

More problematic is that special characters are showing up as raw html code in the feed (at least in NetNewsWire on the Mac), e.g. em-dashes appear as – and apostrophe's appear as ’.

Also, while this post has a timestamp of 4:29 pm, it shown in NetNewWire as being posted at 11:29 am.

  • In reply to ChrisGoedde:

Of course the html code in my comment got interpreted and displayed as the proper characters. In NetNewsWire I see ampersand-pound-8211-semicolon instead of – and ampersand-pound-8217-semicolon instead of ’. Is there a way to preview comments?

  • In reply to ChrisGoedde:

Same issues here with regards to the lack of full RSS feeds and problems with special characters.

It also looks like comments are now displayed in reverse order, which is rather counterintuitive. I guess we'll have to read them backwards in order to properly follow conversations.

  • That explains why I was having a devil of a time logging in and posting this morning.

Navigating to view the full story is not very intuitive, though I get it now.

    Congratulations on your bloggiversary.

Nice logo. Deserves to be bigger.

Sorry to lose the picture. Don't think I will sign up for Gravatar, as I don't want the image I was using (which isn't really me, of course) to pop up everywhere based on my e-mail address, regardless of whether I'm using a nom de web or my real one.

  • Thanks Chris, Zolk and CC. I will make sure your comments get to the developers.

I'm fairly certain the RSS feed will be there soon. I just can't find the dang email from community manager Jimmy about that.

Hang in there, we'll be back to normal soon.

    Thanks again for reading.

  • It looks like this will take some getting used to. It doesn't seem like I had to recreate my display name, though. I just signed in as I have always done (and the e-mail account I used to sign up isn't good anymore).

  • I will try really hard to go with this new look since I enjoy CTA Tattler so much. I know Kevin does a great job here, but really Chicago Now - HALF the web page is advertising/other blogs? Hmmm this may even drive me away from just lurking anymore(i.e. not being counted in the web page hits). Good Luck.

You broke the RSS. Now only snippets of the article are shown instead of the whole thing.
