Shop Small Day 283: The Find Market Event

This one has had me stumped for a while. Early in the challenge I wrote a negative review and decided that I never wanted to do that again. I’ve definitely been to small shops that I’ll never return to for various reasons (biggest pet peeve- don’t ignore your customers!), but I decided to not write about those shops. That’s why I’ve debated so long about writing about The Find Market Event.

The Find Market Event

A few weeks ago a Groupon ad caught my eye- a vintage market in my town? How could I possibly not know about this?

The market takes place on the third Thursday of each month through that Sunday. It’s $4 for adults, and no strollers allowed. I checked out their website which, though limited, did have a page about nearby hotels if you’re coming in for the weekend.

Sounded promising. Sounded like a great way to spend a Friday afternoon with my mom; my sister was bummed she couldn’t make it in from DeKalb to join us for the day.

I still couldn’t get over the fact that this vintage market was less than 5 miles from my house and I’d never heard of it. Apparently no one else had either- besides the security guard (seriously?) we were the only two there.

While there were a few cute repurposed items, and cool vintage lockers, much of it was geared toward DIY… the find

And, we were done in 15 minutes. Tops.

I’m not trying to paint The Find negatively, I’m just confused on the entrance fee and marketing.

When I think of vintage market, the fabulous 3 French Hens Market comes to mind. The Find is definitely not on the same playing field.

This isn’t to say that it’s not worth a visit, but I don’t understand why you have to pay to go to a store, and it certainly doesn’t require a hotel stay.

Anyone else visit here? Did I miss something?
