Last October I took my kids to NYC for our uncle’s memorial. It was obviously an emotional trip, but also an amazing family trip packed with memories (plus one emergency root canal). I even took my daughter to her first Broadway musical. But, if you ask her about the trip, there was one event that stood out far above everything else, our visit to Baked by Melissa.
I know I’ve mentioned that I’m not the biggest cupcake fan, but my daughter could spend all day every day creating, and baking, her own cupcake creations. So there was no way we could pass up this place.
I have to admit, they’re damn delicious.
Our favorites: tie-dye, cinnamon, and peanut butter & jelly. The flavor of the month, piña colada, looks delicious though.
So, who is Melissa? As a kid she loved to bake, but went the corporate route instead, until 2008. Thankfully for us, after getting fired from her advertising job, she decided to return to her true passion and opened her first location in SoHo.
Melissa believed in creating a fantastic dessert, without the guilt from enjoying them…often. Needless to say, New Yorkers agreed and she flourished. 11 more locations opened in the next 5 years.
Fortunately, we don’t have fly to NYC to indulge in Baked by Melissa cupcakes- they ship!
There are several options for delivery, even a “cupcakes of the month” club. Word of advice, though, if you’re planning on sharing any, start with at least the 50 packs.
Yes, you’re reading that correctly, a 6 1/2 foot Cupcake Pod! So cool!
If you have Baked by Melissa shipped to you, shhhh…. I’m hoping to surprise my little baker for her 12th birthday. She doesn’t know they deliver!
How far would you travel for your favorite dessert?
