I prefer a pulled pork sandwich over a hamburger any day. But, finding a quick bbq spot for lunch in the ‘burbs isn’t easy. Until now! If you’ve grown up in the Chicago area, you’re probably familiar with the name. They’ve stuck to catering over the past decade since their last restaurant closed, but they’re back! This time, Brian and Laura created a fantastic fix for your bbq cravings…Sharko’s BBQ.
The cozy decor calls for lemonade out of mason jars (paper cups, though, sorry!), but the novelty of saddle seats for bar stools was fun twist. Though their meats cook slow & low for 4-10 hours, walk-up service is pretty quick. My daughter & I both went with the pulled pork (delicious!), but the majority of customers chose brisket. I like that the pulled pork was cooked perfectly, but served plain so I can add my own sauce: I combined two of the four for the ideal sweet/hot blend.
Ribs, chicken, and salads are also available; or choose pork or brisket by the ounce or on a bun. Whatever you choose, make sure you leave room for their sides. Skin-on cut fries & creamy mac n’ cheese were both good, next time I’m trying the spinach casserole and bacon potato salad.
Of course, what’s a bbq without a little sweet dessert? Banana pudding, peach cobbler, cake, or a enjoy a free mini-soft serve cone.
Thank you Sharko’s for giving us an easy decision for a quick lunch! Thank you also for considering the environment- I could only finish half my sandwich and I was pleasantly surprised to see biodegradable containers instead of styrofoam.
On a side note, I’m thrilled to hear so many readers tell me that they’ve been inspired to “shop small” this summer. Keep me posted on great places you find!
