Since the kids are on spring break, I tried to get the majority of our errands done in one shot, and still incorporate a few for fun. Besides the standard bank & library stops we hit a few favorites for each of us!
First stop, Peter Rubi’s for fresh fruits & veggies for the week. I swear the organic cauliflower was as big as my head!
Next, the kids had their first introduction to Wandering Dragon! We debated between several games, but finally chose, Mine Shift, for a new family game.
Then a quick trip to visit my sister & brother-in-law in DeKalb. Of course a trip there wouldn’t be complete without a trip to Moxie! I found a wall hook, but I’m keeping keeping my eye on their cool canvas lyric signs.
My son picked up a long-sleeve Nike under layer (for upcoming cold baseball games) at Chilton’s Sporting Goods (250 E Lincoln Hwy
Dekalb, IL 60115). They’ve been in this location since the 70’s, probably because the owner is extremely helpful and friendly. You’ll find NIU wear as well as Hawks, Sox, and pretty much any sporting gear you could possibly need.
The House Cafe was perfect for a quick tea, coffee, and cookie. But, most customers linger a little longer, especially when there’s live music. Owned by world-renowned guitarist Fareed Haque, you may be lucky to even catch him playing. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; it’s also a popular study spot.
Of course our last stop before heading home was Ollie’s. Chocolate chip cookie dough was the special flavor of the day- my son must’ve like it- he wasn’t sharing! My daughter created her own Arctic Blast, and I enjoyed a plain chocolate. They were kind enough to offer to put my pint of mint chocolate chip on ice so it would make it all the way home. In case you were wondering, even with the snow, we weren’t the only ones in line!
