Nostalgia must be the theme this week. Today’s plans included running general errands, but I ended up stumbling upon a really cool shop. Actually, through an odd twist of fate, I found a home decor consignment shop that I will definitely frequent often.
First, a little history. My dad died almost thirty years ago. Although we had atari then, most of our “entertainment” involved board games, a makeshift craps table, and lots of card games. At some point during night (especially if he was winning), I could usually count on my dad annoying me with his loud rendition of Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again.”
Fast forward twenty-five years and we’re having a family card night at my mom’s house. In the middle of a hand, my (then five year old) son starts singing “On the Road Again.” Needless to say my mom & I were stunned; he finished singing and asked “where did I learn that song?” Good question!
It felt like fate to find them & they’ve only been open since March 1st, but I’m betting they have a promising future here!
On The Road Again is an upscale consignment store for home decor, but really feels more like a home. Antiques, vintage finds, a bunch of German steins, and really great prices. Looking for an 8 foot reclaimed wood table? They have one! Need an old cast iron stove? There’s one of those too! From art work, to silver tea sets, to rustic end tables…an eclectic mix of fabulous treasures.
(except for the vintage enamel refrigerator drawer- that came home with me!)
Owner Nancy is excited for their new shop. She and her friend Jeanne also have an original location in Orland Park within a Victorian house, so that store also has garden items also. Despite no yard at their Plainfield location, I’m hoping they’ll still bring a few garden pieces here.
Whether you’ve inherited furniture or dishes you no longer need, or you’re looking to pick up a few new (to you!) pieces. Give them a visit. Everything in the store is for sale- yes- even the fireplace! Let me know what you find!
I cannot wait to get “On the Road Again.”
