I’m sure someone has a better list compiled, but I haven’t seen it yet, so until I do, here’s some rough cap numbers on the flexibility the Bulls have left and what they might do with it.
If the Bulls want to use the rest of their cap space this off-season, their present salary information looks something like this. The first number is if Redick comes to the Bulls, the second number is if Redick is matched by Orlando. Salaries are just estimates for Boozer, Redick, Asik, and Korver.
Player | Salary |
---|---|
Carlos Boozer | $13,000,000 |
Luol Deng | $11,345,000 |
J.J. Redick | $7,000,000 |
Derrick Rose | $5,546,160 |
Kyle Korver | $5,000,000 |
Joakim Noah | $3,128,536 |
James Johnson | $1,713,600 |
Taj Gibson | $1,117,680 |
Omer Asik | $1,500,000 |
Vet Min | $473,604 |
Vet Min | $473,604 |
Vet Min | $473,604 |
Total: | $50,771,788 |
Salary Cap: | $58,044,000 |
Cap Remaining | $7,272,212 |
Cap Remaining If Redick Matched |
$13,798,608 |
Presuming the Magic do not match on J.J. Redick, the Bulls may opt to hold some space for the trade deadline in case a better move becomes available then. Assuming the Bulls fill up to the minimum 13 roster spots with 3rd year vet minimum (maximum amount) rather than the signing rookies and 2nd year players to the minimum their salaries could look something like this at the deadline if they opt to save some space.
Player | Salary |
---|---|
Carlos Boozer | $13,000,000 |
Luol Deng | $11,345,000 |
J.J. Redick | $7,000,000 |

Taj Gibson | $1,117,680 |
Omer Asik | $1,500,000 |
Vet Min | $825,497 |
Vet Min | $825,497 |
Vet Min | $825,497 |
Vet Min | $825,497 |
Total | $52,652,964 |
Salary Cap | $58,044,000 |
Cap Remaining | $5,391,036 |
If the Bulls do get Redick, I think they’re probably done making major additions right now. I’d expect anyone left to sign for the vet minimum or perhaps two year deals at slightly above the minimum, but I don’t see the Bulls making any more 3+ year commitments given the talent that’s available.
If Josh Childress is willing to sign for the cap we have left then I might make an exception, but even then, we don’t necessarily have the minutes available to accommodate another big minute player and need a backup PG more than a starting SG.

I haven't heard of any team being interested in Childress, though I'd have a hard time believing he won't get signed. Did I just miss some reports or has his phone been quiet?
1. I guess one spot will go to a big man(vet min + a little more)
2. I don't know the market for Raja Bell...but would he come for say a million(to outbid Miami, LA)..He would be a good defensive guard like a Tony Allen
3. Another spot for a PG(Livingston, Acie Law or some other promising guy who is on any Summer League roster)
4. Lindsey Hunter?
As I said to you in the other post, Doug; "Greek media is about as reliable as a Saab in a mineshaft; however, by all accounts, Childress committed to his third year with Olympiakos already."
If it's not true, I'm all for it. But if it is, then oh well, Trent Hassell here we come.
If this is the team the Bulls go with, I'm quite happy. On paper, they are top four in the East.
I think the goal is to build a team that is top 4 in the conference and then let them play. On that note, I think Bulls management has done wonderfully.
I think we really need another guard who can be part of the main rotation to call it done, we only have Rose & Redick as guards, Korver has spent more of his career at SF than SG.
I'd be pretty disappointed if we didn't find a way to use the space now, the number of teams that now have trade exceptions is going to make picking up anything at the deadline tough.
I mean sure we've got 9 guys under contract now, normally that's a rotation. But if James Johnson and Omar Asik can get pushed out to just being garbage time players and injury insurance by other signings, we should do it.
I really hope that the magic match reddick. Thats a crazy salary for a younger and smaller kover.
I am also disappointed that we are wasting an oppurunity here to add a legit starter and dividing up cap space to back ups. We need another big move like getting Iggy or another starting caliber guard. Reddick and Kover also can't really run with Rose.

J.J. Redick | Magic TopEmail
J.J. Redick has signed a three-year, $20 million offer sheet with Chicago, reports ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher.
Orlando Magic general manager Otis Smith told the Orlando Sentinel Saturday morning that he "anticipates" the team will match the offer sheet.
"I anticipate us doing it (matching Redick's offer), but I'm not sure," Smith said. "It's too early. We'll talk about it."
Smith has seven days from the time he gets the contract to match it."
Well that begs the question: who would you prefer stig?
We fucked up and didn't sign Morrow. I'd much rather be paying Morrow $6-7 million a year than Redick.
Based on this list, looks like you need to be a Duke grad to make real money with the Bulls.
If the Bulls do manage to get Redick, they will still need a more athletic defensive mined guard cause Wade or Lebron or any athletic guard in the league will absolutely destroy Korver and Redick and if Rose don't improve his defense, him too. Korver and Redick are good pickups for outside shooting but these guys have already said speaking of Wade and Lebron...they hate to see anybody try to guard them. I mean lets face it guys, this is almost like the Jordan and Pippin of today and everyone needs to understand, it will be a problem trying to guard those two. The Bulls need some good defenders to try to slow these guys down. The Bulls need some athletic defenders, BOTTOM LINE!
JJ REDICK or RONNIE BREWER:
If Orlando matches (yes), one (me) would think that Ronnie Brewer is coming to the Bulls.
SG MARKET:
It seems to be drying up quickly.
AVAILABLE:
- Nick Young (Wizards via trade)
- Monta Ellis (Warriors via trade)
- Andre Iguodala (Sixers via trade)
- Sam Young (Grizzlies via trade)...I'm all for that.
- Ronnie Brewer (Grizzlies via free-agency)...I'm okay with that.
- Corie Brewer (T-Wolves via trade)
- Wayne Ellington (T-Wolves via trade)
- Mardy Collins (Clippers via free-agency)...he can hit 3's and defend.
- Rudy Fernandez (Blazers via trade)...I'd be good with that.
- Wesley Mathews (Jazz via free-agency...I'd wouldn't mind him.
- Derrick Byars (Bulls via summer league)...I think HE IS A KEEPER.
- Morris Almond (Bulls via summer league)...I think he could be a keeper.
* Outside of those YOUNG SG's, I'm not sure who else is out there worth going after.
i like the measurements and tools of Derrick Byars. wasnt he almost taken last year? He looks like a 2 guard that can shoot and post.

does anyone else think the Bulls should keep the flexibility that they have now with money instead of signing another semi awkward contract like Redicks?
Im cool with a trade and help out by spending a little but we need an establshed 2 guard and there arent any out there that are starter quality.
Chard,
I think the Bulls need to be SMART, yet AGGRESSIVE.
My plan for them would be to STOCK UP on young players they could use in a trade for MELO.
Melo isn't going to be traded. Denver holds all the cards with the new CBA coming, and they have no interest in trading him.
Denver just lost their depth in the front-court to NJ. K. Martin/C. Anderson are injured and Nene is the only guy upfront. And they have an old Billups and an inconsistent JR Smith and their coach is not healthy. If they start losing badly, Melo might want out. I would trade almost anybody for him except Rose. I doubt the new CBA will impact the high end players so much. And the NY theory for Melo is just a propaganda by NY newspapers. He will try to force a trade to whichever team has a chance to win...and there will be a lot of suitors.
The best the Bulls can do now is be prepared with good pieces which will help them win now and can be used in a trade during trading deadline.
lol all i know is we need somebody better at the SG then Reddick lol Ronnie Brewer would probably be a great fit since he is a very good defensive player. Played under Sloan in playoffs games too. I think hes 6'7 with great athleticism.
I would look at these guys
Ronnie Brewer (Great defensive player)
Matt Barnes (Does it all)
Childress i guess (from what i remember he is just average)
Nick Young (Has potential on offense an defense imo)
csharp,
You forget a name. SAM YOUNG.
He's very under-rated and should have been picked over Dickey last year.
SCOOP JACKSON:

I couldn't AGREE more.
TRADE:
To Bulls: Carmelo Anthony
To Nuggets: Andrei Kirilenko, James Johnson and Picks
To Jazz: Luol Deng and Taj Gibson

Interesting article on http://www.cleveland.com/cavs
about how Wade was recruiting and what was the deal breaker for the Bulls with LeBron
Who cares about those guys? Let's MOVE ON.
Because both Celtics/Lakers have 1 or 2 years at the most. The Bulls will be good but if there was no Miami super team and even if the Bulls had none of the 3 guys, the Bulls would still have been a contender for championships.
And, the Bulls could have used Hinrich/1st round pick for a better trade...
I know it's done and we need to move on...but hoping something happens in the next CBA to curtail the Heat...
the new CBA would have to effectively be a hard cap to stop the heat from adding assets. At a minimum it would have to elimanate all the exceptions, MLE, veterans and others. Bird rights could be retained and not help the heat.
elimanating the exceptions would stop them from adding anybody but minimum salary guys each year, of course the Bulls would be stuck with the team they have also once they cap out.
Do you guys think that if batman, batgirl and robin weren't leading us on we would have went after dirk? I know he's old but that would have been a great starting five with Booz
DIRK CHOKE MORE THEN LEBRON........... NOW LOOK AT BOTH OF THEM, LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO ENHANCE THERE CAREER. OVERRATED
WE NEED TYRUS T. BACK ........ CONNECT HIM WITH ROSE LIKE CP DID WITH (WHAT WE FAIL TO DO)WITH TYSON ON THAT BACK DOOR. HE GOT THE BEST HOOPS IN THE GAME......wE NEED HIM FOR TWO YEAR, MAYBE THREE! LISTEN IM TELL YA
You can turn off the Caps Lock light.
He just got a huge contract from the bobcats hes not going anywhere
With some of our remaining money I would really really like to make at CJ Watson to be Derrick's Eisley. Watson's not a assists guy, but he has a good shot, is fast in the open floor, and plays defense like a dervish: his steals rate per minute right up there with Rajon Rondo.
I'd get CJ, maybe bring in Shawn Livingston on a vet minimum as a playmaker/deep reserve, and be estatic with where the backcourt would be at, provided Orlando doesn't match on JJ.
Livingston is a MAJOR HEALTH RISK...no thanks.
Keep ACIE LAW and JEREL MCNEAL or MATT BOULDIN.
I'm all in on CJ Watson. A cheaper and better Hinrich.
Also how do you change your profile picture?
I guess it didn't work out with her? At the very top of the page on the right-hand side, click on your username. On the page that comes up, right besides your picture there's a link to change your picture.
Oh thanks.... I figured it out I posted that before I put this picture on there.... Hopefully it does work out because its my wife haha.... you gotta wife em if they're a bulls fan !!
We need to get that 6-7 guard from Arkansas, RONNIE BREWER!!!! If Orlando matches or not, we need to get that dude in a Bulls uniform!!!!! and or Matt Barnes!!!!
Thats exactly what I was thinking but the general consensus is that if JJ Redick becomes a bull we're doing with free agent signings for the summer other than maybe some bulls from last year or guys from the summer league
i meant done not doing
I am so tired of these spoiled athletes crying about not getting their billions of dollars for playing a game.
Teachers should be paid the salaries of athletes. The US is so behind on the TRUE winners in our society!
A teacher should be paid at least 100K a year for their hard work in starting these childrens lives out and sending them into a good direction.
Athletes should not be paid millions of dollars while the real hero's of our society are the teachers!
FYI, I am not a teacher, nor do I play one on the computer but do know a lot of teachers who have changed childrens lives forever and for the better.
We are so screwed up on the importance of the people in our society.
anthony morrow is a BEAST! We need to sign him now, maybe do a sign and trade for Deng if they would agree. Him and rose would be insane! Lets do this! both young and up coming superstars!
Anthony Morrow is a nice player, but he's NOT a beast.
Ya I read that I don't see it happening as much as I wish it would. I'm not gonna dream about another big name FA coming here. We'll have another Allstar when Noah hits the roster next year.
I don't think they will let him go if they match the nets offer
THINK BIG:
http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nba/columns/story?columnist=jackson_scoop&id=5349997
The Bulls can't compete for a championship without adding another ALL-STAR.
I think the Bulls summer league team has some real decent players/shooters on it too. Bouldin is kind of like a bigger Hinrich. Byars can play, same with Morris ALmond. Even Jack McClinton can score. I like what we did with our summer league tema this year. AJ Ogilvy is a solid backup center too.
Im thinking Ronnie Brewer should get a call from us. He would be a perfect defensive shooting guard for us. Keep Morris Almond and Byars around to help out Korver with the 3 point shooting. No need for Reddick imo. These guys are much cheaper and a lot better athletes. Magic MATCH REDDICKS OFFER!
If all we did some sign some more guys...i wouldnt mind looking like this..
Rose, Livingston (cheap contract)
Ronnie Brewer,Morris Almond, Derrick Byars
Deng, Kyle Korver, James Johnson
Boozer, Taj, Kwame?
Noah, Re-Sign B Miller, Asik
I would also look into Kwame Brown. I would only sign him for cheap though. You can never have to much muscle down low. Plus he can give 6 good hard fouls and rebound.
Wear,
Melo holds the cards, not Denver.
If he wants out, then the Bulls should STEP-UP.
As often is the case...YOU ARE WRONG! Denver holds the cards b/c Melo will most likely loos $$ if he doesn't sign an extension. He will probably sign the extension.
What's the status on him? Is he any good? Is he on the summer league or dleague?
Utah,
He's more of a bigger PG. I don't know if his defense is any good though.
I would prefer the Bulls keep ACIE LAW and JEREL MCNEAL to back-up DROSE.
I agree w/Acie Law...dunno about McNeal.
Chard,
Yes to both comments.
Derrick Byars needs to STICK with this team this year.
CLARIFICATION:
When I say drying up, I mean in terms of free-agency.
Other SG/SF's can be had via trade. I indicated that.
Ronnie Brewer should get a call from the Bulls or even Shannon Brown if Brewer falls through.
Reesel,
I have to believe Orlando keeps Redick, so Brewer should be on the Bulls next week.
why is there so much josh childress love out here he was a bum with the hawks....since we have a defensive minded coach maybe we can sign some defensive minded players maybe if the magig match reddick we can throw some money at Ronnie Brewer and Matt Barnes to versatile defenders we will need to beat Miami and there d leauge roster...Barnes is not a great player but his i dont care who u are attitude we can use on the court imagine barnes who is the complete opposite mind set wise as luol deng who we all know is affraid of lebron james comin off the bench he guards three positions and wont back down from wade or the queen and brewer can start
Yeah no Josh Childress love here... look at his career stats. Horrible. I would take Ronnie Brewer, I think Matt Barnes is going to get picked up pretty soon. With Korver and JJ Reddick as shooting guards we do a great job of spacing the floor... but we need a back up point guard that can cut and take it to the hole besides derrick rose. I would happily trade Deng for Iguodala if it becomes available.. Igodala is a beast
a very expensive beast.
Air,
Check with Stephen A. Smith's twitter.
He says NO to a Deng/Iguodala trade.
We can defenately use some nasty, and Matt Barnes certainly provides a little of that and some borderline crazy also.
You kind of need at least one guy like that to get into the other teams head and face. That is why I favored T Willaims in last years draft over JJ.
Shaun Livingston and Matt Barnes and call it a day. If the Magic matches on Reddick, throw Doug a bone, sign Childress.
Sign Matt Barnes NOW! He is the shut down defender we need.
I like Matt Barnes too but supposedly we arnt 1 of the 6 teams that have contacted him...so i doubt we go after him unless something changes. If we dont go after him...id like Ronnie Brewer alot. Then just keep some shooters like Byars and Morris Almond around. All they have to do is nail 3pointers.
Love Livingston...hope they sign him too.
This is kind of off topic but ....
Who's excited to see 4 Derrick Rose vs Evan Turner showdowns next year!! Given their history tibs has to let Drose guard him
What about Micheal Redd? I could of swore he was a free agent this year....we could use him. D Rose drive an kick all day long. I hope we retain Morris Almond as well...hes a big guard.
I would pass on him. I don't think he has anything left and he makes 18 mil a YR. I would, however, try getting rid of Deng for Andre Iguodala. I don't think we could pull it off, but the makes the most sense.
Iggy can't shoot, has always played better as a small forward, and believe it or not, has a much worse contract than Deng.
My bad thought redd was a FA
TRADE:
I think the Bulls should try to send James "Dickey" Johnson and CASH or future considerations to Memphis for RONNIE BREWER and SAM YOUNG.
That would a SMART move by the Bulls' brass, if they could pull that off.
BREWER and YOUNG would give the Bulls a nice pair of TALL and YOUNG WING PLAYERS, who can DEFEND, RUN THE BREAK, REBOUND and PUT THE BALL IN THE BASKET.
using caps everynow and then makes you look like you have writers terretz haha
EMPHASIS.
There is no BOLD or UNDERLINE on here.
Michael Redd...no thanks.
They Bulls needs to go for youth over injury.
Corie Brewers defense would be badass but who do we have we can trade for
Utah,
James "Dickey" Johnson needs to go. He can't guard SG's or the perimeter.
Ronnie Brewer, Sam Young or even Corie Brewer all can do that better than him.
I bet Noah would love to have Corie Brewer but I doubt the Timberwolves would give him up for JJ. We'd prob have to give up Taj so not worth it.
Ronnie Brewer isnt bad....i would of liked Stanley Robinson in the draft!!!! An thats all he does is play D! Could of had him late late 2nd round.
csharp,
He did put up Hinrich-type numbers before suffering some injuries.
Brewer can do more things, than just defend, despite that being his forte'.
I just want to know what you guys think about Tmac right now? Would you mind signing him? He's 6'8, experienced, can make open shots, draw fouls, supposedly he has been working hard this summer to get back into shape....I do like Brewer but he cant shoot a lick. We need better then Reddick. Nick Young might have some decent upside. If Byars or Almond want to play defense, they should have a spot on the team.
Not sure the Bulls or anybody would be in interested in TMAC. He didn't do much in NY so I don't think he has a chance here.
Who was the kid the bulls signed on draft night that went undrafted?? I remeber he was a gaurd
Matt Bouldin
not a fan
This kid is decent...just depends how hard he works
csharp,
Byars is a good defender, who can also knock down 3's and run the break.
I think he deserves an HONEST shot at making the team this year.
Redd will be out till February.
It does seem to me that if he were indeed available, there would be a boatload of rumors about where he might be headed.
Once Lee signed, Childress pretty much became the best talent left, so as they say, the silence is deafening.
