Jesus cried out and said,
“Whoever believes in me believes not only in me
but also in the one who sent me,
and whoever sees me sees the one who sent me.
I came into the world as light,
so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness.
And if anyone hears my words and does not observe them,
I do not condemn him,
for I did not come to condemn the world but to save the world.
Whoever rejects me and does not accept my words
has something to judge him: the word that I spoke,
it will condemn him on the last day,
because I did not speak on my own,
but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and speak.
And I know that his commandment is eternal life.
So what I say, I say as the Father told me.” John 12:44-50 (NAB)
“I came into the world as light, so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness.” I know that darkness. I spent a lot of time there. Sometimes I still visit. But there’s a difference now. There’s a light at the end of the darkness.
When I was younger, I was taught to be in the darkness. My mother always viewed the world from that viewpoint and for awhile, so did I.
The other day, one of my supervisors at work told me that even though I was covering for her and others I was not the “best.” I looked her steadily in the eye and said, “That’s okay. That’s what I do. I’m the back-up vocalist, the rhythm guitar player. It’s my role and I know it and do it well.” She walked away looking a little perplexed as did a few other employees.
I won’t be dragged back into the darkness. If it’s of my own doing, that’s different, but no one is going to take me there with a back-handed comment.
I know my role and I’ll do it well in the light of Christ.
Prayer For Help Against Spiritual Enemies
Glorious Saint Michael, Prince of the heavenly hosts, who stands always ready to give assistance to the people of God; who fought with the dragon, the old serpent, and cast him out of heaven, and now valiantly defends the Church of God that the gates of hell may never prevail against her, I earnestly entreat you to assist me also, in the painful and dangerous conflict which I sustain against the same formidable foe.
Be with me, O mighty Prince! that I may courageously fight and vanquish that proud spirit, whom you, by the Divine Power, gloriously overthrew, and whom our powerful King, Jesus Christ, has, in our nature, completely overcome; so having triumphed over the enemy of my salvation, I may with you and the holy angels, praise the clemency of God who, having refused mercy to the rebellious angels after their fall, has granted repentance and forgiveness to fallen man. Amen.
