Virtual Senior Center Helps Isolated Elders Stay Connected

If you are caring for someone who lives alone or is isolated due to health and mobility challenges, I encourage you to look into this innovative program.

CJE Senior Life – an organization providing a wide range of high quality senior services to Chicagoland for over 40 years – has introduced its Virtual Senior Center to meet the needs of older people who could benefit from social and educational activities yet cannot travel to available programs.

What a fabulous idea! Social and educational engagement are crucial to wellbeing at all stages of life. Those who have difficulty leaving the house should not be excluded from this kind of interaction. The Virtual Senior Center fills a real need among homebound elders.

The program also offers peace of mind to caregivers who want their loved ones to stay engaged with the world and who cannot be there in person all of  the time.

Imagine your family member using a simple touch-screen computer to join classes, explore the Internet, and engage in video chats with family and friends. Those who qualify will have a preconfigured touch-screen computer installed in their home that includes a webcam and microphone. Set-up and training will be provided so the elder can get started right away.

CJE Senior Life is actively seeking isolated adults in the Chicago area to apply for the program. Applicants should be at least 55 years of age and be interested in participating in the Virtual Senior Center for at least 30 hours a month over a six month period.
