Earth day 2013 is on Monday April 22, and do you have plans to show your appreciation for Mother Nature yet? If not, there is still plenty of time to find fun and meaningful ways to celebrate this natural holiday in Chicago and Chicagoland.

Get outdoors and enjoy the spring weather with these five fun and wild earth day celebrations. All of these activities are free and fun for the entire family.

1.    Exelon’s Friends of the Parks Workday

Exelon, the energy giant, is sponsoring their 24th annual Earth Day cleanup workday on Saturday April 20, 2013. Numerous local parks in and around Chicago will be participating, creating many different opportunities for locals to get out and help do something productive for their area parks. 2.    Earth Day Festival & Farmers Market, Carol Stream

The Carol Stream Park District is hosting a free festival at the Carol Stream Town Center on Saturday April 20th from 10am to 2pm. Activities will include free electronics recycling, a farmers market, Chevy Volt test drives, giveaways and more. 3.    Earth Day at the Little Red School House, Willowbrook

The Forest Preserve of Cook County is hosting a free Earth Day event at the Little Red School House on Saturday April 20th, from 10am to 2pm. The event will include activities to teach people how to become better Earth keepers. Come for the events and explore the nature center and surrounding hiking paths. 4.    Earth Day at the Graue Mill, Hinsdale

The Graue Mill will feature free admission and Earth Day activities on April 21st, from 12:30 to 3:00pm. Activities will include making free grass-a-pilers. Also, be sure to check out Fullersburg Woods adjacent to the mill for hiking trails, an incredible nature center and more Earth Day activities. 5.    Go Green! A Celebration of Conservation, Fullersburg Woods
