If the 15 strikeouts in Tampa already showcased Chris Sale’s ace-caliber stuff, it was this outing versus the Mariners that saw him fulfilling all the responsibilities and chores of the #1 slot in a rotation.
He shrugged off a long 2-R HR early in game, and ate all nine innings for a Sox pitching staff that had exhausted their bullpen the previous day in an extra-inning marathon.
Huge workloads for Sale still make a lot of people queasy, but the comfort and ease with which he pulled it off was encouraging.
