Peavy opens U.S. Cellular in style

For the 2012 home opener, White Sox fans were offered the chance to watch Jake Peavy–a man who personified the last few years of large expectations and larger disappointment–square off against a Detroit Tigers team that figured to torment the division for another year.

But as he has all season-long now, Peavy roared when he was expected to whimper.  He showed the bite on his slider of earlier years, hit as high on 94 on the radar gun, and struck out eight batters in 6.2 innings.  It was still early, and manager Robin Ventura didn’t trust him enough to not pull Jake at the first sign of trouble, but the eventual 5-2 win was sealed with a little help from a man named Dayan.
