Chicago Public Schools student Juan Melendez was diagnosed with leukemia and continues to undergo treatment. In September, sadly, he was in a serious car accident that left with with severe brain trauma. To help with medical bills, his sister set up a GoFundMe page to help them with the bills. Read about Juan, below. And if you can, please make a contribution.
Meet Juan, a senior at John Hancock College Prep High School who is also a leukemia patient. Juan recently found himself fighting for his life on September 23, 2015 after he was in a tragic vehicular accident, leaving him with severe brain trauma.
With the great team of doctors at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, Juan was discharged after an excruciating 3-and-a-half weeks. He was then transferred to the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. With amazing efforts by so many, he is now an outpatient, but unfortunately he is left with large medical bills. Juan is undergoing occupational and physical therapy 3 times a week on top of his weekly chemotherapy.
Throughout his high school years, Juan showcased his athletic talents as a member of the football, basketball, and softball teams. These experiences have contributed to Juan’s positive attitude and unwavering determination. Although his life has changed drastically within the past year, Juan has been able to overcome many obstacles.
Juan’s family has been blessed to have a portion of his medical expenses covered; however, there is a substantial amount yet to be paid. The Melendez family greatly appreciates any assistance that allows them to concentrate on Juan’s transition back to his every day life.
Thanks for your continued support and encouragement!
