For the Sept. 13 public affairs forum with Chicago schools chief Jean-Claude Brizard and teachers union leader Karen Lewis, the Chicago Tribune asked readers to write an essay on what makes public education succeed or fail.
A version of my post “Cameron Diaz and Other Reasons People Hate Chicago Teachers” won. Click on the title above to read the essay.
Other winners are G. A. Finch, Trevon Martin, Eva Delgado, Cassandra Eddings and Devyn Rigsby, along with two other noteworthy essays from Gary Lawson and Ron Barker.
The live discussion will take place 6:00 p.m. this Tuesday at the UIC Forum 725 W. Roosevelt. Tickets are $15.
