Pet peeves: Do we share any of the same ones?

Have you ever been around someone who insists on cracking their gum or chewing loudly? Not sure how many of you will answer yes without feeling annoyed at the mere thought, but it’s something that makes me nuts. Among other things.

Something happens to me when I hear people chewing loudly. I get irritable and want to rip the food or gum out of their mouth. There is a disorder called Misophonia which is described as literally “hatred of sound”, a form of decreased sound tolerance. Dat’s me. Dat’s what I got. So did the girl in the Cell Block Tango in the Broadway hit Chicago. Her guy not just chewed his gum, he popped it. So she popped him.

There have been times when my husband has chewed gum and I felt this way. I believe his life was spared when he had braces put on at the age of 52. He hasn’t chewed gum since.

I also can’t handle the sound of heavy metal music. To me, it’s an assault on the ears. If anyone ever wanted to drive me right into Bellevue, they could lock me in a room and make me listen to some over the top, head banging metal music. It would be quick too. Give me about 10 minutes and I’d be begging for the loony bin. This is what I’m talking about (no offense to the band, I know people like you):

I had a hard time even searching for this on Youtube. I only played a few seconds of it and decided it was offensive enough to my senses to show you what I mean. And it’s interesting how many forms of music I do like. Almost every kind….except this. And Dubstep if any of you older folk know what I’m talking about. Wow, it’s bad.

Then there are people. Not just all people but the kind that love to one up me on everything. The kind that you want to slap because you know they are exaggerating to make you feel bad and make themselves feel better. anyone who knows people like this can relate to Penelope, formerly a Kristin Wiig character on Saturday Night Live. She one upped everyone. A sad impression since the original is not available:

It’s always bothered me that people like this feel the need to make you feel less than they are. These people are useless to me. Toxic and useless.

The other thing that really bugs me is this: And I can’t even talk about it.

Ugh to the Ugh

That’s all for today, after listening to these things and looking at this picture, I gotta go sleep it off.
