The Lincoln Park Zoo is preparing to unveil it’s new Nature Boardwalk at the end of June. In preparation for the freelance story I am writing, I’ve been talking to representatives of the Zoo about all of the fabulous family programming coming our way. Trust me, this is going to be an awesome space for all Chicago families. I cannot wait to explore the Boardwalk with my own kids (and I will of course be writing about the new offerings here).
I wanted to tell Wee Windy City readers about one particular opportunity offered through the Lincoln Park Zoo this summer because the spots for this one-of-a-kind opportunity are filling up fast (so says the folks at the Zoo).
The new Nature Boardwalk at the Lincoln Park Zoo is going to offer families the chance to explore an urban ecosystem at night. Participants can take a night hike, explore the surrounding wildlife, enjoy a pizza dinner and then comes the best part — pitch a tent and sleep under the stars against the backdrop of the city skyline.
How awesome is that? The perfect urban sleepover!
Edited on May 3, 2010: I received an email from the Press Department at the Lincoln Park Zoo today with a date change for this event. The August sleepover date has been changed to August 6 & 7 (PLEASE NOTE: This program
be offered on August 20th & 21st as previously listed.) The sleepovers are taking place the weekends of July 16th-17th and August 20-21st.
The fun kicks off at 6:00 p.m. on Friday nights and wraps up when the
birds sing on Saturday morning. The cost is $50 per person for
non-members and $45 per person for members.
Tent rental is included in the price and representatives from REI are
even going to be on hand to help you get those tents set up. Visit the
Lincoln Park Zoo website for additional details on how to get your
family registered for this unique opportunity — but hurry because this event is going to sell out.
