Ten ways to do yoga without going to a yoga class

It is hard for some to commit to more than one hour for a yoga class.  With travel time to and from the studio, it might be more hours than one is willing to give up in their day.

Despite a busy schedule you can still do yoga. Here are ten ways to squeeze yoga into your busy life without going to a class.

1. First thing when you wake up, before you get out of bed, close your eyes and inhale a deep breath in and exhale a long and even breath out.  Continue the deep breathing as you fill up with gratitude for simply being alive another day.

2. While brushing your teeth ground down through both feet and lift up inside to stand taller.

3. Squat down to malasana to look for your shoes or anything on a low shelf and open your hips and release the low back.

4. Be compassionate as your navigate traffic to get to work.

5. At lunch time, eat slowly aware of each bite, taste and texture of your food.  Understand the nutrients are providing you strength and energy.

6.  Twist gently in your office chair to release toxins and stress.

7. If you drop something (or if you have a minute), take time to consciously fold forward softening your knees allowing your neck to lengthen and head to hang heavy.

8. On the floor entertaining babies or kids (or maybe organizing papers), sneak in balasana (child’s pose), one legged stretch, or even bridge pose.

9. Breathe when running errands or waiting in long lines.  Choose to find the beauty in the moment.

10. Lie on your back with your legs up the wall before bed allow your mind and body to relax and try to let go.
