Why I am done with K-Cups and you should be too

Why I am done with K-Cups and you should be too

This has been a long time coming.  I remember when my husband gifted me a Keurig machine in our 2 bedroom condo when our now nine-year old was less than one.  As a tired mom, that machine could have been a snow cone or ice cream machine.  At any time of the day, I could simply put my cup underneath to receive energy, warmth and comfort.

That machine moved with us to our house, and spent much time with me as my daughter struggled to gain weight and I spent hours bouncing her in an attempt to make her happy.  My Keurig and I took a few breaks as I tried to quit coffee from my life, but I always came back.

Until now.

I cannot ignore the below facts.

1. The excess packaging and waste is terrible for the environment.

2. Melted plastic

3. It isn’t very natural to get your coffee from a pre-packaged pod.

Keurig knows they could in trouble and released a sustainability report with hopes to be 100% recyclable by 2020.  I can’t wait that long.

That machine has been replaced by a simple french press.  No electronics, just glass, coffee and hot water.  It requires practicing patience and waiting about seven minutes longer.

It is some of the best coffee I have ever tasted.

Do you use K-Cups?  Have you ever made your own french press coffee?  Will you switch over with me?
