Yoga Guru BKS Iyengar died August 20, 2014 at a private hospital in Pune, India after being hospitalized with a kidney ailment over the past week.
According to the New York Times, “President Pranab Mukherjee said, “The nation has lost a personality who devoted his entire life to the teaching and dissemination of India’s ancient knowledge and wisdom to millions all around the world.”
The first yoga book I ever read was the yoga bible Light on Yoga by Iyengar. This sacred and global bestseller details the 216 poses and discusses the philosophy of the ancient healing discipline for body and mind.
As the great teacher himself said, “I always tell people, live happily and die majestically.”
Rest in Peace.
