How I Spent Twelve Hours Alone

How I Spent Twelve Hours Alone

Last weekend my husband was away on business and my parents graciously allowed my kids to sleepover.  I had 12 hours to myself for the first time in recent memory.

Did I go out with my childless friends I never see?  Did I go to a movie alone?  Did I run errands, clean the house or go to the spa?

I laid in my bed.

It was wonderful.

I didn’t feel guilty.

There was no one that needed help; no one needed anything from me (except my dog who enjoyed the attention).  It was quiet.  I don’t think I have ever been in my house alone.

When I am on my yoga mat I am alone.  Although often surrounded inches away from many other yogis, I am alone within myself.  This is one of the many reasons I connect with yoga.  No matter how chaotic life is when I get on my mat I can only concentrate on my needs, my body and myself.

I love taking care of my children, my husband and our home, yet some days we all need to be alone to refresh, rejuvenate and relax.

What would you do with 12 hours alone?

  • I would probably stare out into space and indulge on take-out food only I like! The silence of 12 hours would be absolutely magical!

  • Good for you! I love this post! It just made me feel really happy and content for some reason. I'm so glad you acknowledge and appreciate your need to be alone. It can be so difficult in this society. I'm the type that requires a bit more alone time than most folks. So alone is something I relish in. Even the things I do when alone are quiet activities: photography, writing, yoga, cooking, walking and often meditation-oh and dancing! But don't be misled, when with others, I can get pretty talkative! :D

  • I would probably do exactly the same thing you did. I'd curl up with my laptop and a book and a full season of one of my favorite TV shows.

  • Thanks, Ladies. I am glad to see I am not alone in my need to be alone.
