One of the coolest things about Little Rock is the neon signs. Most are old signs, sort of neon ghost signs, and one is for a place that is still in business. Enjoy!
Capital Glass, on the corner of South 8th Street and Broadway is still in business. The street has a few auto repair businesses, but a downtown hotel is just a half a block away. The signs do not look new, and the one with the arrow appears to be quite old. The buildings on the street were built in the 1920’s, so if the signs were original to the buildings, they are almost 100 years old.
Little Rock Paint and Wallpaper is long gone but its sign is in great condition. The sign is in front of Spokes Bicycle Shop /Meteor Cafe (which has a partner from Chicago!) on the corner of Markham and Kavanaugh. This is a “neon ghost sign.” What is unusual about this sign is that it is not mounted on the building, but on a pole just outside the front door. The building is has a triangle shape, so the sign’s location makes it visible to drivers on both streets.
Buice Drugs is no longer in business, but its sign lives on, the shopfront is empty. Another “neon ghost sign”. This sign looks worn out, but is still interesting. It is located on West Markham Street, across the street from Spokes/Meteor, in the Stift Station neighborhood.
