The Chicago Red Stars of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) announced open team tryouts for the 2014 season will be held on Thursday, February 27 and Friday, February 28  at the Max McCook Athletic and Exposition Center, 4750 S. Vernon Avenue, McCook, IL.

According to their press release, the Red Stars’ tryouts will include two days of trials. The first day, Thursday, February 27, will consist of two tryout sessions. The second day, Friday, February 28, will consist of one invitation only tryout session:

Thursday, February 27 (Players are expected to attend both sessions)
Session One: 10:00 a.m.  – 12:00 p.m.
Session Two: 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Friday, February 28 (Invitation Only)
Session One: 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

All college senior and post-collegiate players interested in participating must first pay a registration fee of $100 (payment is accepted via credit card or check) before completing a registration form and waiver at

The Red Stars will debut their 2014 season on April 19 against U.S. soccer star Abby Wambach and the Western New York Flash at Toyota Park . Preseason matches include FC Kansas City on March 22 , The University of Notre Dame April 2, and a doubleheader of DePaul University and Oakland University on April 6.

All Chicago Red Stars regular season home games….with the exception of the season opener, which will be played in a doubleheader with the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park… will be played at Village of Lisle – Benedictine University Sports Complex in Lisle, IL.

“This is something we’ve been dreaming about since the Red Stars were founded,” said Red Stars General Manager Alyse LaHue. “It is really special for Chicago sports fans to see a men’s and women’s team collaborating on an initiative like this. We thank the Chicago Fire for welcoming us into their home and are excited about future possibilities to come.”

This marks the Red Stars first visit back to Toyota Park in four years, after having called the stadium home during their 2009-2010 season competing in Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS).

Founded in 2007, the Chicago Red Stars are one of nine professional clubs in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). The team, led by head coach Rory Dames, boasts players from the U.S. and Canadian Women’s National Teams.

In 2014, the Red Stars have strengthened their roster, both through draft and acquisition. Players returning from the previous Red Stars lineup included Captain Lori Chalupny, midfielder Alyssa Mautz, and defenders  Michelle Wenino and Jackie Santacaterina. Notable additions to the team include USWNT player Christen Press, Canadian National Team veterans Karina LeBlanc and Melissa Tancredi, and first round college draft picks, Julie Johnston and Vanessa DiBernardo.
