Remember overtime pay? The Department of Labor is about to restore it–and yes, nonprofits will have to comply along with the rest of the business community. Hooray! And if any nonprofit Board member predicts the end of the world as we know it because of the requirement, ask him/her how much s/he is giving to the agency, and point out that every employee is giving way more than that in foregone income.
And note that low-wage workers at nonprofits are overwhelmingly female, so overtime is a feminist issue, too.
Nonprofits have compensated for their lack of financial capital by eating their human capital. It’s time that stopped.
