Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, November 22-24

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, November 22-24
I am pushing this article out earlier, because I have a trailerful of Black Wednesday and Black Friday events to get online. So I'll have a post up for Monday through Thanksgiving, including Black Wednesday, and then one for Black Friday and the weekend. I will be visiting the parents during that time, so keep watching for events to keep being added. You can see some of the events already on the "Beer Calendar" link above. In case you missed it, a major employee-owned brewery is targeted for corporate takeover. New Belgium of Colorado has announced it will be taken over by Lion Little World Beverages of Australia, itself a subsidiary of Kirin of Japan. New Belgium was started in 1991, and had become the largest independent brewer in Colorado. Denver Post...

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, November 15-17
Update: I had reported Sunday’s Bears football specials from the establishments hosting them, which seem to have all assumed the matchup against the Rams would be at noon. Instead, the Bears were kept on the “flex” schedule. Kickoff is at 7:20. Assume that any of the game-watching special mentioned below will be good for Sunday evening. Hey all! I've got more freelance work lined up, a crush of events all the way through various Black Friday releases, and now starting to see beer establishments' New Year's Eve parties. I'm punching them in as I get them, and each of my calendar articles will be updated as that happens. After a couple years on the planning boards, Englewood Brews has launched an Indiegogo campaign to help finance the building of their tap room. The woman- and minority-owned brewery has a mission of providing jobs and a community space in their facility, at 821 W. 63rd St. Watch for their crowdfunding campaign kickoff below...

I'm getting this out a little early so I might be able to make time to post winners from the Festival of Barrel Aged Beer on Saturday. And I thought I was going, but family obligations keep me at home. I am the Phantom Beer Blogger. This week we have preview pourings for Begyle Imperial Pajamas, more Revolution Deep Woods, Surly Darkness, and previous Bourbon County Stouts are being cleared to make room for this year's...

This Week's Chicago Craft Beer Events, October 21-24

This Week's Chicago Craft Beer Events, October 21-24
It's been a rough day or two for me here: a "normal" day surgery procedure ended up with complications. Let's just say some of my clothes looked like Carrie's prom dress. Fortunately, it got cleared up at an "Immediate Care" facility instead of needing an ER visit. But in the meantime, I'm expected to stay off alcohol. And acidic fruits. And spicy foods. Even chocolate. Enh! In case you missed it (or ICYMI, as the kids online say), InBev/Anheuse- Busch is seeking an injunction against MillerCoors to prevent it from using its "trade secrets", among them the process for making Bud Light. Here I thought the only secret was how much water they dilute their beer with. (Chicago Tribune)...
