We have sad news of another local brewer preparing to close its doors. Ben Rossi at Only Child Brewing in Gurnee has posted news of their closing on Facebook: I am reluctant to inform you that Only Child will be ceasing its brewing and taproom operations, and will be closing the Gurnee location. I have... Read more »
We are still in the easy time of recovery after Black Friday, Christmas and New Year's events in Chicago. I am again pushing a little ahead of schedule to get these listings out. Be sure to keep watching, because I'll be filling more events as they are scheduled! And the first big beer event of 2020, Chicago Ale Fest
, is coming up Saturday the 11th.
And I've been a little late in getting this news posted, but Fischman Public House has called it quits. The famed beer bar and package store had moved to a location in Six Corners in 2018, based on a promise of redevelopment for the storefronts around it. This developments never happened. That, and several other economic factors, has forced the Manchur family to throw in the towel. You can read their story on their Facebook page
I am going to be HELLA busy in the next few days with actual paying assignments. So I am posting this on Saturday night, but will be adding to it afterward. I also need to get more events posted early for Black Wednesday, Black Friday, etc. Check the "Beer Calendar" button up top to get a preview.
And I would be happy to post any information on establishments that are open for business on Thanksgiving Day, and anyone who's up for Christmas Day hours. As long as there's access to decent beer, let me know...
We're still slowly running down the Oktoberfest season, and just now ramping up the brief period for Pumpkin Beers, then Halloween parties...

I'm strangely worn out this evening, but I have gathered the week's events and posted them now. I will pull in the information on local winners from the Great American Beer Festival if I can...
I've left one event off this list because it's all sold out: The last bottle release for Goose Island's King Henry
barleywine beer, which had been aged in Pappy van Winkle barrels previous used to age Bourbon County Stout. Tickets immediately sold out for the price of $200, which would get the attendee a 650 ml bottle of King Henry to take home, plus several 5 oz. pours of other Goose Bourbon County Brand barleywines. Sure, if you think you can score tickets, it's at the 1800 W. Fulton taproom, Monday the 24th, 7 to 10 pm. More details at Brown Paper Tickets
. Even Goose Island's websites and Facebook page don't list this anymore. Because, I guess, why bother...
We are seeing the first pre-events February's Chicago Cider Week. There are also special beers from Off Color
, Twisted Hippo
, Light the Lamp
, 3 Sheeps
, Lo Rez
, Three Floyds Brewing Co.
We also have Robbie Burns Night at Fountainhead, a Lumpen release party, and two big Stout events. Maybe this will help make up for the loss of Stout Fest at the late Quenchers Saloon...
I’m punching this article out to make my usual Wednesday night post time, but will be adding a few events to it afterward. Got a big freelance project I need to get through as well. The Daily Herald reports that the Ram Restaurant & Brewery in Schaumburg has suddenly closed. No explanation has been offered... Read more »
On Halloween, Off Color Brewing is having a Dino S’Mores marshmallow imperial stout release party at a preview of its new taproom, the Mousetrap, at 1460 N Kingsbury, Chicago. Not that I’m checking in there, but this is as close a reason as I can find to review a bottle of one of their beers. Besides, it’s got a drawing of... Read more »
