This past week, San Diego-based Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits has announced plans to open a "research and development" brewpub on North Green Street, in the Fulton Market neighborhood. The brewpub, set to open next year, is a kind of homecoming for Ballast Point, which was purchased by Chicago-based Constellation Brands for $1 billion in 2015. (Chicago Tribune) Also, Shorts Brewing of northern Michigan has announced that they have sold a 19.99% equity stake in their craft beer operation to Lagunitas U.S. Holdings (yes, it spells LUSH). Under the terms of the deal, Lagunitas will receive a seat on Shorts' five-person board of directors. The deal was described as a way to fund further expension for the popular beermaker.
