Chicago Halloween Week with Beer, October 25-28

Chicago Halloween Week with Beer, October 25-28
The buildup to a weekend Halloween has a few beer events, mainly centered around pumpkin carving, movies and trivia. By the way, I have found myself missing notice of some events lately. Part because I put the weekend calendar. If I have been missing out on your beer tappings or dinners, please let me know... Read more »

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, October 15-17

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, October 15-17
Almost done with Oktoberfest events, just in time for Halloween! We gain one, we lose one. Wild Onion had announced it was closing its Wild Onion Tied House in Oak Park, effective at the end of October. But storms over the past weekend caused a sewer backup and a power outage to their food storage,... Read more »

Chicago Week in Beer, October 11-14
Pushing to get this article into production. Oktoberfests are slowly winding down, just in time for Halloween beer events. There is surprisingly more expansion to come in the local beer scene. Black & Gray Brewing in East Dundee has announced they will be expanding, nearly doubling their taproom space and tripling production. Could store distribution... Read more »

Chicago Pre-Halloween Beer Weekend, October 25-27

Chicago Pre-Halloween Beer Weekend, October 25-27
Not only is it the weekend before Halloween, but it's the weekend on the first Beer Culture Summit, a program of beer scholarship and, well, beer drinking, sponsored by the Chicago Brewseum in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institution. This should be right up my alley, but I can't be spared from work and family duties, and besides, I'm having a bad recovery from a minor surgical procedure. That meant I couldn't get to Tuesday's media preview for Goose Island's Bourbon County Stout. Apparently, Tribune beer writer Josh Noel was shut out of it, according to his Twitter feed. Kind of odd, since all of us beer geeks fling snark at Goose Island and its corporate master at one time or another...

This Week's Chicago Craft Beer Events, October 21-24

This Week's Chicago Craft Beer Events, October 21-24
It's been a rough day or two for me here: a "normal" day surgery procedure ended up with complications. Let's just say some of my clothes looked like Carrie's prom dress. Fortunately, it got cleared up at an "Immediate Care" facility instead of needing an ER visit. But in the meantime, I'm expected to stay off alcohol. And acidic fruits. And spicy foods. Even chocolate. Enh! In case you missed it (or ICYMI, as the kids online say), InBev/Anheuse- Busch is seeking an injunction against MillerCoors to prevent it from using its "trade secrets", among them the process for making Bud Light. Here I thought the only secret was how much water they dilute their beer with. (Chicago Tribune)...

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, October 13-15

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, October 13-15
Is it still playoff time? The Cubs have a do-or-die game on Thursday that will determine whether they get to take on the Dodgers starting Saturday. We'll be adding to this list with NLCS events as they're announced. Meantime, we have another brand new brewer with a grand opening on Saturday. Take a look below. And remember to enter the lottery for tickets to Goose Island's Proprietor's Day on November 19. Details at this article....

Chicago Craft Beer Halloween Week 2014

Chicago Craft Beer Halloween Week 2014
Here’s a whole week of all the Chicago events I could find that involve craft beer, Halloween parties, pumpkin carving, pumpkin beer, and general hijinks. Those who want a little more sanity in their lives can see my accompanying article of Non-Halloween events. And I’m putting Day of the Dead events in this list, too!... Read more »
