My hosting site that was serving up the dates from my Google Calendar has gone wonky. I am placing text for the last day of this period at the bottom:
Phase Three Taking Over Lake Zurich
The big news as this article's writing: Phase Three Brewing Co.
, the current buzz beer maker in Chicago, is taking over operation of Lake Zurich Brewing. Phase Three had been contract brewing its trendy hazy IPAs at Lake Zurich, 932 Donata Ct.
According to Tribune coverage by Josh Noel
, Phase Three had been selling more beers, while Lake Zurich's sales were declining. Lake Zurich has posted a farewell to the Facebook page, announcing that their final weekend of operation is January 17-19.
The brewery had originally opened as Black Belt Brewery, the first beermaker in the village, in 2016. It shortly closed and was taken over by Lake Zurich in 2018. The brewery is expected to reopen as Phase Three in the spring...
Half Acre's Big Hugs and Bell's Hopslam make appearances this weekend! In Indiana, we have a South Bend fesitval and Burn 'Em's Long Johns On Fest. And we mark the 100th anniversary of the start of Prohibition...
So on top of the news that Kings and Convicts has bought out the Ballast Point beer brand
, we have another bit of change on the way:
Andersonville Brewing, which started in 2009 as a side brewing operation at Hamburger Mary's Chicago restaurant, will be ending operations in early 2020. Their brewing space will be taken over by Urban Renewal Brewing.
They have confirmed to me that Andersonville's spinoff, Oak Park Brewing, will continue to operate. Urban Renewal will run the space as a tap room for their beers, and eventually make some small batch releases there, according to brewery personnel.
I am hoping to start posting New Year's Eve parties over the weekend. I'll simply post my usual calendar article for the week of December 30 to January 2 with the NYE parties filling in. No doubt more will be made known as I go, but you may want to make your reservations sooner than later...
Again I’m working up to the last minute to get more and more holiday events and big beer events into this list. If it seems like there are more beer choices here in Chicago, it’s true! The Brewers’ Association has noted that the Chicago metropolitan area now has 167 commercial brewers, the most of any... Read more »
If you missed out on buying Canadian Breakfast Stout
this weekend, as I did, there are a couple of places this week that'll have it on draft. And look for more Half Acre Big Hugs
, and "End of Prohibition" celebrations...
Usually around these parts, CBS
means the Chicago Beer Society
, the ancient order of homebrewers that puts on many on our favorite beer events. This weekend, CBS
means Canadian Breakfast Stout,
the maple syrup barrel-aged variation of Founders Brewing's Kentucky Breakfast Stout
that goes on sale this weekend for the first time since 2011. I have many events below where it will be going on sale or on tap. There are more sale points at Lakeshore Beverage's release here
, that will be added to this list after I've posted. Just so you're prepared: I am hearing estimates of around $25 per 750 ml bottle.
on the local beat, Sunday is when Half Acre
releases its imperial stout, Big Hugs
. And Werk Force
awakens its BBA Stout, Sleepy Bear
. Be safe driving out there...

They were able to reopen for one more baseball season in 2015, but... Read more »
