A socially distanced Great American Beer Festival managed to get itself held this week. The Brewers Association managed to hold its festival virtually, with online workshops and other events. With the winter months ahead and our ability to generate revenue significantly impacted with limited capacity due to COVID-19, we have made the very difficult decision to shut down operations at Ballast Point in Chicago effective October 24th. At that time, we are halting all on-site retail, brewery production, and taproom operations. Unfortunately, this decision impacts all of our Chicago employees. We are forever grateful for their contributions to our company. Our plan is to reopen this location when the weather is favorable and it is safe to dine indoors.

This past week, San Diego-based Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits
has announced plans to open a "research and development" brewpub on North Green Street, in the Fulton Market neighborhood. The brewpub, set to open next year, is a kind of homecoming for Ballast Point, which was purchased by Chicago-based Constellation Brands for $1 billion in 2015. (Chicago Tribune

of northern Michigan has announced that they have sold a 19.99% equity stake in their craft beer operation to Lagunitas U.S. Holding
s (yes, it spells LUSH). Under the terms of the deal, Lagunitas will receive a seat on Shorts' five-person board of directors. The deal was described as a way to fund further expension for the popular beermaker. (News Release

Last weekend the 32nd Annual Great American Beer Festival was staged by the Brewers Association at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver.
