Update: I went out on a limb with the supposition below, and it turns out the mysterious announcements were indeed for a new beer release. The beer is Bouffant Jellyfish, an "American Sour" coming out in limited release on draft and in cans.
Could there finally be movement toward a WarPigs brewpub in Chicago? WarPigs was started in 2015 as a joint venture between 3 Floyds Brewing Co. and Danish contract brewer Mikkeller. They opened a brewpub in Copenhagen that year, and a year or two later, began offering beers in our area, in cans and kegs. It was noted at the time that WarPigs in the States was being made at Great Central Brewing in Chicago, and Wisconsin Brewing in Verona. There were also rumors of a Humboldt Park brewpub, in a space allegedly owned by Nic Floyd.
Now, WarPigs' Instagram has been posting cryptic messages like "Arrival is Imminent." Could they be leading up to a location announcement, at a time when many other brewers are expanding? Or is it just promoting a new beer to come soon?
Also, as you may know, the latest guidance from the Center for Disease Control says that people who are immunized against COVID-19 would be allowed to go in public without masks. However, individual businesses will still be able to set their own masking rules. And considering how easy it would be for someone to just say they've been vaccinated, or to show a fake vaccination card, why not do a favor to those servers who;ve put up with a lot over the past year, and stay masked unless you have the go-ahead from the place you;re in.
next weekend is the start of Illinois Craft Beer Week (originally Chicago Craft Beer Week). While there will be no public events for May 14-21, the event, sponsored by the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild, will have some promotions. Besides special tappings at participating beer slingers, they have a "Pay It Forward" promotion, basically encouraging you to buy local and tip more generously. There's also "A SHOT + A BEER," wherein you can take a photo of your vaccination record along with an Illinois beer, and post it with the tag #ShotAndBeerIL to enter a drawing for prizes. There's another social media promotion taking place of the "Passport" program. Pick up a frame at a participating brewery and post a photo with it and a beer to #ILPassportPlus for weekly prizes between May 14 and June 10.
Somehow I missed the new of yet another brewery debut, this one in Indiana. Fuzzyline Brewing Co. opened its doors May 6th in downtown Highland, 2712 Condit St. They promise a full range of beers, with an emphasis on sour styles.
All too soon, Chicago Craft Beer Week
is ending. I'm publishing this page early and continuing to fill in events. Hoping we can all catch a break and enjoy some cold ones at home or with comrades this upcoming Memorial Day weekend...
The is the first time some years that Chicago Craft Beer Week
is actually just one week long. Lately it has expanded to cover two weekends, but I guess they didn't want to run into Memorial Day weekend. So watch this space and the CCBW site as events get added moving toward the finish...
Again, here's my selection of events for Tuesday of Chicago Craft Beer Week
. This list is being added to constantly, so check here and at the CCBW website...
I can tell right now, this will not be a mere duplicate of every event on the Chicago Craft Beer Week
website, because there's just so many of them. But I continue to pick out the juicy highlights, and add in other events as I find them. And I'm updating constantly, so keep updating yourself...
So the “closing parties” were held last night, but is still a whole nother day of Chicago Craft Beer Week. These are only the things that caught my interest; you can still find more at the CCBW website or on their app. Sunday, May 24 Flossmoor Station Barrel Room Tour and Tasting Flossmoor Station Restaurant... Heading in to the home stretch. I think any of these events that are shown here as “ticketed” should still have tickets left (tonight’s party at Half Acre is sold out, for example). As always, I may have let a few non-CCBW events slip in here. And you can see the full schedule at the... Read more »
I just keep piling on events that I find to involve rare or local beers. Then whatever else interests me. There seem to be about 30 Revolution tap takeovers today, so I’ll let you look them up at the CCBW page! But it’s getting late, so this page may not have much formatting nor as... Read more »
