Chicago Beer Weekend, January 8-10

Chicago Beer Weekend, January 8-10
I have started a list of the brewers, and some of the beer bars, that have closed over the previous year. It is interesting that nearly as many breweries opened as closed down. I'll start on that once I get this listing posted. And yes, the bears are still playing football this weekend. I have a few places here that have made of note of related events. If you;re looking for something a little closer, check around. Understandably, not everyone is going to have a big screen in their tents, heated or not...

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, September 11-13

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, September 11-13
Are we approaching normalcy in the sports world? We have both the Cubs and White Sox cruising toward post-season play, and the Bears season starts up. Okay, so there are no gameday crowds. And so far only a few beer establishments have scheduled events during Sunday's Bears opener. But there will be more last-minute events that I will try to post here. And you'll be saved from forking over $22 for a Lite tallboy. A lot of this weekend's events are focused on Oktoberfests. And they take place over two or three weekend days. To save space, I am posting these events n the first day they occur, noting that they run over the rest of the weekend...

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, October 4-6

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, October 4-6
Oktoberfest is slowly winding down in Chicago, and conjoining with regular Sunday Bears games. We have another big fest at the Field Museum, and pretty soon we'll be looking at Halloween parties. Be still, my aching typing fingers. This is the weekend of the Great American Beer Festival, Thursday through Saturday in Denver. The event is capped by a judging of beers in 109 style categories. I will try to bring the list of local winners shortly after they're announced...

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, January 4-6
I am now plugging in announcements for watch parties for the Bears' first playoff game since 2010. Now, I have joined in with the joking reference to the "Fog Bowl" of 1988, but it may be worth noting that the Bear have met the Eagles in the playoffs three times: in 1979, 1988 and 2002, and the Fog Bowl is the only playoff win they had against the Eagles. Anyway, some more beer specials during the game (starting at 3:40 at Soldier Field) will certainly be announced later, so keep checking back...

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, September 21-23

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, September 21-23
So yes, the Great American Beer Festival is going on right now in Colorado, with the country’s largest judging competition for commercial beers. I will try to post the winners as they are announced. Meantime, this is one of the busiest weekends of the year, what with so many Oktoberfest events going on. I actually... Read more »

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, September 8-10
Hey, while I was doing this and that, MyGrain Brewing Co. opened its doors on Thursday. Joliet had been one of the largest cities in the (non-Dry) United States that did not have a local brewer, but that's over with. And there are more brewers working to open there, too. MyGrain is open with beer and food at 11 am every day. They're in Joliet's Union Station at 50 E. Jefferson St., Suite 106. Phone 815-345-3339. Welcome aboard! We are in the thick of Oktoberfest weekends. I am including as many as I can find which might feature local beers or any good Oktos from across the sea! I'm watching for beer-centric events for watching the Bears. And soon, yes, soon, we'll be offering playoff baseball events...

Check a little further down, and you’ll see a listing of bar specials for Bears games!
