Josh Noel reports that Burnt City Brewing is planning to close its brewpub on Lincoln Ave., and its production brewery at the former Jay's Potato Chip plant on the South Side. Their plan is to consolidate at an 18,000 square foot space at 417 N. Ashland Ave. Burnt City, which started life as Atlas Brewing in 2012, is quitting the battle for shelf space in stores across the region. Co-founder Steve Soble cited the many breweries trying to become regional or national brewers, while being pushed by the "crafty" brands owned by Anheuser Busch-InBev. The upcoming Burnt City would top off at 5,000 barrels per years, serving from "pour-your-own" taps, and become part of West Town's "Chicago Brewing District," anchored by Goose Island.
