Chicago Craft Beer Week, December 16-19

Chicago Craft Beer Week, December 16-19
I hope you've checked back with my list of New Year's Events in the top post on this blog. There are still parties being added. Things will finally settle down only on Christmas week. This weekend, being the Winter Solstice, will see a lot of dark beer releases to go with the darkest day of the year. So it will be one last hurrah for the year...

Chicago Craft Beer Week, December 2-6

Chicago Craft Beer Week, December 2-6
I managed to post about 100 Black Wednesday and Black Friday events before heading off to share Thanksgving with parents and siblings. We only had the fortitude after dinner for some of the cousins and in-laws to try a signle Bourbon County 2 Year Reserve, which I'll write up a little later. And I missed the chance to post more of the Small Brewer Sunday events, mainly because they popped up last minute. Now I get to start looking for an coordinating new Year's Eve stuff. I'll be watching for parties at beer makers, good beer establishments, or others that mention having a decent beer selection. Not an easy thing when most places want to promote champagne flights...

Chicago Black Friday Beer Weekend, November 29-December 1

Chicago Black Friday Beer Weekend, November 29-December 1
I'm posting Monday evening, with a lot more beer events to add. I believe I have most of the Black Friday "official" Bourbon County Stout events. This includes some BCS on tap at Goose Island's O'Hare Terminal bar. And Links to to the BCS going on sale at Jewel/Osco. There are plenty more brewers releasing their big dark beers this week. Also, December 1 is the inaugural Small Brewer Sunday, an event promoted by the Brewers Association to focus on local breweries, in the same vein as Small Business Saturday. There are just a few brewers with related events right now, but watch for that number to grow...

Chicago Black Wednesday Beer Week, November 25-28

Chicago Black Wednesday Beer Week, November 25-28
I am getting this posted now, but I still have more Black Wednesday events to post. But I know everyone wants to make their plans. All I can say is that this schedule will be expanding constantly, and I hope to get the Black Friday listing up early as well. And for Thanksgiving Day, I am listing some of the good beer places that have indicated they WILL be open, with with football and all that...

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, November 22-24

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, November 22-24
I am pushing this article out earlier, because I have a trailerful of Black Wednesday and Black Friday events to get online. So I'll have a post up for Monday through Thanksgiving, including Black Wednesday, and then one for Black Friday and the weekend. I will be visiting the parents during that time, so keep watching for events to keep being added. You can see some of the events already on the "Beer Calendar" link above. In case you missed it, a major employee-owned brewery is targeted for corporate takeover. New Belgium of Colorado has announced it will be taken over by Lion Little World Beverages of Australia, itself a subsidiary of Kirin of Japan. New Belgium was started in 1991, and had become the largest independent brewer in Colorado. Denver Post...

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, November 15-17

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, November 15-17
Update: I had reported Sunday’s Bears football specials from the establishments hosting them, which seem to have all assumed the matchup against the Rams would be at noon. Instead, the Bears were kept on the “flex” schedule. Kickoff is at 7:20. Assume that any of the game-watching special mentioned below will be good for Sunday evening. Hey all! I've got more freelance work lined up, a crush of events all the way through various Black Friday releases, and now starting to see beer establishments' New Year's Eve parties. I'm punching them in as I get them, and each of my calendar articles will be updated as that happens. After a couple years on the planning boards, Englewood Brews has launched an Indiegogo campaign to help finance the building of their tap room. The woman- and minority-owned brewery has a mission of providing jobs and a community space in their facility, at 821 W. 63rd St. Watch for their crowdfunding campaign kickoff below...

Goose Island Proprietor's Day Ticket Raffle Sept. 30

Most of these be be available on Black Wednesday (the day before Thanksgiving) at select locations on draft,... Read more »

Bourbon County Stout's 2019 Lineup: More Barrels, Less Fruit

Bourbon County Stout's 2019 Lineup: More Barrels, Less Fruit
So yes, I’ve been sent the lineup for Goose Island’s Bourbon County Brand Stouts for 2019. The Goose has been playing games with beer nuts for the past few years, filing labels with the government for funky sounding stouts to throw people “off the trail.” Things like Horchata, Butterscotch Stouts, what have you. But the... Read more »

Chicago Craft Beer Week, June 24-27

Chicago Craft Beer Week, June 24-27
I've left one event off this list because it's all sold out: The last bottle release for Goose Island's King Henry barleywine beer, which had been aged in Pappy van Winkle barrels previous used to age Bourbon County Stout. Tickets immediately sold out for the price of $200, which would get the attendee a 650 ml bottle of King Henry to take home, plus several 5 oz. pours of other Goose Bourbon County Brand barleywines. Sure, if you think you can score tickets, it's at the 1800 W. Fulton taproom, Monday the 24th, 7 to 10 pm. More details at Brown Paper Tickets. Even Goose Island's websites and Facebook page don't list this anymore. Because, I guess, why bother...

Chicago Beer Weekend, June 7-9

Chicago Beer Weekend, June 7-9
I finally get to wrap up my little side job this Saturday. That takes me up to the weekend of my, ummm – umpty-umpth birthday. Mrs. Naut, who does not drink, said she will consider visiting a brewpub with food and a good kids' menu...
