Beer Travel: Paw Paw Brewing
Again, I find myself doing a review of a place I’ve visited away from home, while still gathering my notes on local spots. I just have a little more fun hitting places on my way to and from somewhere. I had some weekend business to do in the Detroit area last November. I didn’t take any time... Read more »
Historic Dixie Highway Brewery Trail Launches
Among the many little things I have a “thing” for are historic highways and route, and the roadside Americana that comes with them. Combine that with a “beer trail,” and you’ve got my attention. To get this story out in a timely manner, I’m posting the news release, mostly as I received it. Eight southside... Read more »
Craft Beer Options Expand at White Sox Park
I’ve been hoping to get out to a White Sox game and check out the craft beer options they added last year. And their PR people have been offering to have me out as a guest. So, as it turns out, I’m finally able to take them up toward the end of the season. But... Read more »

Beer Travel: Reclaimed Rails, Bondurant, Iowa
I’m just now getting to writing up some places I visited while with the relatives back in Iowa during Thanksgiving. So the timing is a little bit stretched, but not to worry, there’s still beer there.
So it seems that just lately, my little sister and some of her kids have become craft beer-curious. Part of that seems to stem from the fact that after being a beer wasteland for most of the current brewing bubble, central Iowa has been playing an excellent game of Catch-Up and some of these new tap rooms have popped up along my sister’s favorite bike trails. She recommended Reclaimed Rails, so my dad and I went there...
Eclipse Beer Journal: Big Muddy Brewing, Murphysboro
Monday morning of the Eclipse, the "Eating Machine" and I (okay, you could call me the "Drinking Machine," but my alcohol intake is, luckily, not as prodigious as the food intake of the average teenaged boy) struck our tent in DuQuoin and chanced a trip further south and east to Murphysboro, IL. ...
Eclipse Beer Journal: St. Nicholas Brewing, DuQuoin
As my previous post suggests, I was able to make the trip south to view the Total Solar Eclipse, and to visit a few brewing establishments in the area.

St. Nicholas Brewing Co., DuQuoin[/caption]
St. Nicholas Brewing Co. is located in the town's historic St. Nicholas Hotel, right across from the railroad tracks, which still has an Amtrak intercity stop. The three-story hotel was built in 1879...

Eclipse Special Review: Big Muddy Dark Noon
I wanted to slip in at least one note from the site of the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse. I’m betting that closer to the actual event, the WiFi will be totally overloaded. But I’ll have a bit of a journal and some further pictures later. The Minor Naut and I are at Big Muddy Brewing... Read more »
Beer Places in the 2017 Solar Eclipse
I’m taking it upon myself to compile a list of brewery tap rooms and brewpubs with the path of totality for the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse. It will become dark and eerie in the middle of the day. Don’t face it without a beer. The southern half of St. Louis will see totality for less... Read more »
