Tickets go on sale this Saturday, September 1 for the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild's
10th Annual Festival of Wood and Barrel-Aged beer! This year's FOBAB, as we call it, will take place Saturday, November 17 at the Skyline Loft of the Bridgeport Art Center
, 1200 W. 35th Street, Chicago.
Sales start at 11:59 a.m. through BrownPaperTickets.com

There will be admissions to two tasting sessions: 1:00 − 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 − 10:00 p.m. Taster tickets are $45 and include a commemorative tasting glass, 16 two-ounce sample tickets, and a souvenir program. Additional sample tickets and food are available for purchase. Designated driver tickets will be sold for $10. While previously tickets have remained available for a few days, the booming craft beer scene leads me to suggest you prepare to avoid a possible quick sellout...
Brewers from around the world received awards from an elite international panel of judges in the 2012 Brewers Association World Beer Cup this past Saturday. The ninth bi-annual competition boasted the strongest field of entrants on record, with 799 breweries from 54 countries and 45 U.S. states entering 3,921 beers in 95 beer style categories.... Another area resident has been named a winner of Samuel Adams LongShot
homebrewing competition. Joe Formanek of Bolingbrook won for his Russian Imperial Stout, which will be “brewed up” and offered next year as part of the 2012 LongShot six-pack.
Joe is a member of the Urban Knaves of Grain
, a hombrew club based in the western suburbs.He tried out homebrewing while pursuing a B.S. in Microbiology at the University of Minnesota, according to the Midwest Homebrewer of the Year site. In 1993, he founded the Boneyard Union of Zymurgical Zealots (BUZZ)
in Champaign while studying at the University of Illinois...
Many area brewers new to the scene took home medals this past weekend at the Great American beer Festival, held last week in Denver. 5 Rabbit Cerveceria of Chicago won a Gold medal for its 5 Lizard, the first year of its existence. The Chicago Beer Society held its seventh annual Day of the Living Ales tasting on Saturday, March 5. The festival featured 44 beers from 26 brewers from Chicagoland and across the nation, all served from casks in “real ale” style. The 13th edition of the Brewpub and Brewery Shootout was held Saturday, January 22, at Chicago’s Irish American Heritage Center, 4626 N.
