St. Patrick's Beer Weekend in Chicago, March 11-13

St. Patrick's Beer Weekend in Chicago, March 11-13
Guinness ad for Ireland soccer.

Lot of events going on, of course. I tried to keep it down to stuff in places known for good beer. Just having “green beer” doesn’t cut it. And serving “Irish Car Bombs” gets a big stink-eye from me.

Early Warning: The Madison Homebrewers and tasters Guild has announced its ticket sales for Great Taste of the Midwest, being held August 13 in Madison, WI. Tickets at $70 will go on sale May 1 at several locations throughout Madison. Tickets will also be sold via a mail-in lottery. Only mailed entries postmarked on Monday, May 2 will be eligible. Get the full details here.

9:00 am • Half Acre Online Release
Half Acre Beer Co., 2050 W. Balmoral Ave., Chicago 773-754-8488 Map
Double Barrel Benthic is our biggest and final online release of the 2021 Benthic brewing season. We selected Willett and Heaven Hill bourbon barrels for the first seven month residence, before blending into freshly emptied apple brandy barrels for an additional seven months’ time. To conclude, we infused both toasted coconut and cinnamon.
By aging the entire batch in multiple sets of barrels we achieve more overall barrel character, diverse spirit character, and dial up flavor potency. Double Barrel Benthic is a thickset stout. Heat from the apple brandy barrels and the spice of the cinnamon lands like spirit-rich apple pie mixed with decadent chocolate and macaroons. High praise to the entire production crew for all the extra effort that goes into creating a beer like this!
Double Barrel Benthic will be on draft in the taproom starting Friday 3/11. PLUS a Brewer’s Conversation on the Benthic series 3/12 @ 12pm with extra special tappings. For more information on the online release, head to the link in our bio.
Online Release at 9 AM. Link:

11:00 am • Pepper’s Pils Release + Food Truck Weekend
One Allegiance Brewing, 10215 S. Harlem Ave., Chicago Ridge, IL (708) 529-7067 Map
Hi beer friends, come meet Pepper! She’s a 1-year old bull terrier and she is our new brewery doggo so it seems fitting that our next beer release is named after her!
Pepper’s Pils was brewed with the utmost attention to detail for a beer style that leaves nothing to hide. Pepper’s Pils pours a vibrant gold hue with fast rising bubbles from natural carbonation. At first sip, the soft water and premium European Pilsen malt coats the mouth with a perceived sweetness. Quickly following is a bright hoppy bitterness that cleanses the palate and begs for another sip. This true German Pilsner Lager finishes with a clean richness and a beer our brewer’s are most proud of (not only because they’ll be drinking it in copious amounts)!
Brewed in collaboration with Jeremy Bersano, B.O.S.S. homebrew competition gold medal winning Pilsner Lager
Food trucks are back this weekend!
Friday: Mario’s Tacos (5pm-9pm)
Saturday: Smokin’ BBQ (5pm-9pm)

Oswego Brewing Co., 61 S. Main St., Oswego, IL (331) 999-1991 Map
Station 2 – West Coast IPA. ABV: 7.1%
The fact that our brewery is located in a decommissioned firehouse is not lost on us. Every day we are in awe of the brave firefighters, law enforcement officers, medics, doctors, and nurses. Our “station” beers are a tribute to all the folks who keep us safe and healthy.
It also acts as a hop experimentation platform for our brewers.
For Station 2 we added Mosaic, Simcoe, and Amarillo. This combination presents citrus, pineapple, and tropical fruit notes along with a soft but present bitterness.

Beermiscuous Highwood, 552 Sheridan Rd., Ste 2, Highwood, IL (847) 780-3486 Map
Join us and let Ziggy stick a hot metal rod into your beer!
Bierstacheln, or “Beer Spiking” is a centuries old tradition with roots in Europe and colonial America. Beer would be too cold to drink directly in the Winter months and would need to be heated to drinking temperature. Enter a hot poker. Literally. Now, Bierstacheln usually takes place in the late winter and early spring, when it’s nice enough to want a bonfire but still chilly enough to want a bit of toasty warmth to your drink. The hot poker will swirl in your beer for a few seconds, creating fluffy foam and caramelizing residual sugars. The result is a creamy, malt forward libation with a foam that will remind you of toasted marshmallow.
We’ll have Aleman’s Soulman Vanilla Brown Ale on draft and plenty of other beers that we’ll want to try out.
