Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, February 4-6

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, February 4-6
Hop Butcher for the World co-founders Jeremiah Zimmer, left, and Jude LaRose at 5 Rabbit Cerveceria in Bedford Park. (Antonio Perez / Chicago Tribune)

Apparently, when Hop Butcher for the World was negotiating to buy Half Acre’s Lincoln Ave. tap room and brewery, they was also negotiating with 5 Rabbit Cerveceria. This week, the Tribune’s Josh Noel reports that Hop Butcher has closed on a deal for 5 Rabbit’s production brewery in Bedford park. Hop Butcher has already been brewing at the Bedford facility, and hope to have a taproom opened by fall. 5 Rabbit, meanwhile, is working on a space at 19th and Sangamon in the Pilsen neighborhood, with hopes to open in the summer.

There is a bit of good news to report from the west. Carlyle Brewing Co., which anchored downtown Rockford since it opened in 2003, has re-opened. The brewpub was closed in June by its owner and brewmaster Jim Carlyle. There has been a change of heart, and the place reopened on Groundhog Day. WIFR

Another update: Just learned of the opening for Crust Brewing, a brewpub and pizzeria, which took over the former Hofbauhaus space in Rosemont. They currently have a tap list of three lagers, and pale ale and a wheat beer. Now taking reservation at (630) 653-5500, or visitors at 5500 Park Place.

Our Magesterium Maibock has returned!
The Church Street Brewing Co., 1480 Industrial Dr. Ste. C, Itasca, IL (630) 438-5725 Map
In hopes of a quick winter, this light and malty beer makes you feel like spring is around the corner. Due to our double-decoction-mashing process, the sweetness of the malt is brought to life. With three different hops added, it balances this beer to a traditional golden brew. The official release is this Friday, the 4th. Come in for a pint or two! Trudging through the tundra is well worth it for this righteously good beer!
