Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, September 25-27

Chicago Craft Beer Weekend, September 25-27
1953 German Oktoberfest Postcard

I’ve got a butt-load (and a “butt” is a barrel size, so its usage here is all right) of events for this Oktoberfest weekend. And one cancellation:

The Dixie Highway Brewery Trail Oktoberfest scheduled for this weekend has been cancelled due to lack of ticket sales. It seems there have been many events that had been postponed from summer due to the COVID-19 surge, which are being scheduled too close together as fall draws nigh. I hope to offer advance notice of future events in the breweries of the south suburbs.

Bosacki’s Brewery, 610 E. Hawley St., Mundelein, IL (224) 778-5400 Map
Our Oktoberfest style beer (or more appropriately a Bavarian Märzenbier style), a naturally carbonated lager, has the complex rich toasty flavors, slightly sweet and a dryer finish. Traditionally these style beers were originally brewed in March, kept in cold storage, and the remaining beer was served at the September/October festivals. An ABV of 5.3% and IBU of 18 closely matches beer served at a German Oktoberfest where large quantities of beer are consumed.

2:00 pm – 8:00 pm • Tighthead Hoptoberfest
Tighthead Brewing Co., 161 N. Archer Ave., Mundelein, IL 847-970-9174 Map
Hoptoberfest is back!
Live music, Tighthead beer, and food!
Live music by Conscious Rockers and Daniel Cronson Band. An Oktoberfest inspired menu will be provided by Captain Mike’s Galley. We will have cider from 2 Fools, Press hard seltzers, N/A beer from Athletic Brewing, and Tighthead brews.
I and I IPA is our west coast style imperial IPA brewed with 4 lbs. of hops per barrel, a blend of mosaic, citra, simcoe, and talus hops. This blend greets you with aromas of peaches and overripe tropical fruit. A simple but hefty malt bill provides a honey-like sweetness to balance the sturdy hop bitterness.
Mundeleiner is a session lager brewed to welcome the end of summer and celebrate the Mundelein community that proudly supports its local brewery. This lager is crisp and refreshing with a light, grainy sweetness and is perfectly balanced with a single hop variety that changes year to year. This time around we picked Hallertau Blanc.
Purchasing your Hoptoberfest tickets online gets you a free beer! Full beer, cider, seltzer, and non-alcoholic menu will be out this week. 21 and over.
