Perhaps the big news of the week I’m posting this is a decision from the state of Illinois classifying bars and tap rooms as “Food Establishments,” even if there is no kitchen or food prepared on premises. As a result, establishments that had been friendly to bringing dogs to inside pubic areas will no longer be permitted. The exemption for service animals still applies. Outdoor beer gardens and sidewalk serving areas will also still allow pets. It may affect some events that are already scheduled, too.
And we have some more brewery news: Chris DiBraccio, a partner in Willow Springs’ Imperial Oak Brewing, was the son-in-law of the late Russell Brixie of Brixie’s Beer Bar & Grill in Brookfield. DiBraccio bought Brixie’s last year from Russell’s widow, and has announced plans to convert the long-time dive bar into a second brewing location for Imperial Oak. The Riverside-Brookfield Landmark story has more details. It will be a bummer to lose Brixie’s, a place with over 85 years of history, a great craft lineup, and maybe a fight among patrons at any given night. But more brewing is a plus. Go see the place if you haven;t already!
