Chicago Craft Beer Events, July 25-28
Conrad Seipp Brewing was the biggest brewer in Chicago in the early 1900s.

Still punching in many extra hours over the week, and I spent most of Sunday trying to decide what burned out in Saturday’s thunderstorm: my modem or my router. Finally got the router people to tell me to ship it back; good thing I still have my 12-year old Apple AirPort.

Which means I did not have time to put together the article about Fischman’s Tavern. On the week that they closed due to losing their lease, they announced they already have a new location lined up to open later this year. Well, the interwebs already spilled the beans even though I had agreed to a Sunday embargo on the story. But I’ll have some details here later.

Part Two of our two-part event. Featuring even MORE killer brews from Firestone Walker Brewing Co.! This time we’re tapping up:
Helldorado: Blonde Barley Wine—13.2% abv 25 IBU. You’ve been warned: Helldorado may be blonde in color, but if you take it lightly, you’ll get gunned downed by a blast of barrel–aged flavor at an ABV of 12 percent. The driving idea behind Helldorado was to create a super blonde barley wine that could still carry the strong barrel character imparted by aging the beer in retired spirits barrels. The result is an unlikely brew whose light complexion belies a full–bodied attitude and intense barrel expression.
Agrestic: American Wild Red Ale—6.6% abv. The 2015 Batch #2 begins its journey as DBA, then transforms into Agrestic by a “chrysalis” process involving 85% French and 15% American oak barrels and our proprietary collection of microflora. To blend, we selected beer matured eight to 36 months in barrels, creating a synergistic beer. Like Batch #1, Agrestic Batch #2 signature flavors and aromas shine. Toasted oak, lemon pith, and rosewood swirl on the nose and palate, followed by an amazing harmony of vanilla, coconut, Earl Grey tea, dark cherries and spice. The finish is crisp, with a mouthwatering acidity and chewy tannins.
Nitro DBA: British Pale Ale—5% abv 30 IBU. DBA—a.k.a. Double Barrel Ale—is the trailblazing flagship beer that started it all for us back in 1996. Partially fermented in our patented Firestone Union oak-­‐barrel brewing system, DBA quickly took the Central Coast by storm and set the pace for future beers to come. Today, DBA is regarded as a California classic, and stands as an iconic tribute to traditional cask-­‐fermented English ales. Pale malts create a smooth middle with ribbons of caramel, English toffee and toasted oak.

Helldorado and Agrestic will start pouring at 6:00 p.m. and Nitro DBA will be tapped up and pouring all day long. Kim from Firestone Walker will be here as well to talk about the brews and other cool stuff Firestone Walker has got going on. Firestone Walker schwag abound.
