As I mentioned in my last article, the Independence Day weekend is usually light in beer events, because most people will be spending time elsewhere. But I do have a few events pulled together for you.

July 1 – 3

Red, White, and Brew – All 4th of July Weekend!
The Open Bottle, 7101 183rd St. #105, Tinley Park, IL 708-247-3757
Our Red, White, and Brew event is back again this year! Come on in and grab a flight (7oz of each) of a red ale, wit beer, and a blueberry beer to show off your American pride! If you get a flight, you get a free koozie to take home with you! It’s perfect to keep all your beers cold during your Fourth of July celebrations– these koozies fit perfectly on cans (or can glasses!) and come in red or blue.
Also- if you grab a 16oz pour of the wit beer you can get a koozie too! Limited quantities available. One per person.
Red ale: Short’s Brewing Co. Hi-Dilly-Ho, 6.6% ABV. A Flanders Red released as a part of Short’s Private Stache series. This beer is complex with aromas reminiscent of cherry, currant, and oak. Its flavors range from fruit to red wine to subtle malt. Hi-Dilly-Ho is medium-bodied with a moderate acidity and a dry finish.
Wit Beer: Avery Brewing Co. Liliko’i Kepolo, 5.6% ABV. Adding a tropical island flair to a spicy traditional witbier, Liliko’i erupts with monumental passionfruit aroma and acidity along with a sublimely succulent finish
Blueberry Beer: To Øl Mr. Blue 7% ABV. Rustique saison-style ale with blueberries.

Friday, July 1

Half Acre Freedom of ’78 Release
Half Acre Beer Co. Tap Room, 4257 N Lincoln Ave., Chicago (773) 248-4038
There’s a home in Logan Square that has housed Half Acre-ans for the last 8 years. Our owner and his wife lived there first, then our head brewer and the woman who would become his wife, then another brewer and his wife and now a couple that met at Half Acre and got married. When they move out, someone else will sign the lease and continue the custom, making sure to preserve the Half Acre lineage
Last year we brought Freedom of ’78, an IPA with “Pure Guava,” back from a 5 year absence. Originally brewed with Short’s Brewing, this beer is outlandish and crushable, channeling the effect of Ween on the brain.
The return of Freedom supplied a new tradition for the Half Acre house. In honor of the chill vibes emitted here, we gather as a company and squeeze onto the porch for a Half Acre Family Photo. Then we hang out, drink beers, and watch the dogs tear it up, because that’s the whole point.
