Saturday, January 16

9:00 am – 5:00 pm ♦ Cooler By The Lake
Lake Michigan has inspired countless cultures, has been admired by a myriad of adventurers and is a major reason why four great American states flourished. Lake Michigan is also the reason the Midwest is a craft beer haven. History On Tap hosts a one day public tour that explores the historic and cultural importance of Lake Michigan. With visits to Greenbush Brewing in Michigan, New Oberpfalz Brewing in Indiana and Blue Island Beer Co. in Illinois, participants will learn, and taste, how Lake Michigan has impacted the Midwest. The day ends at Hopsmith Tavern for a tap takeover featuring breweries from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. A portion of proceeds of this experience will benefit the Alliance For The Great Lakes, who will be on hand to discuss whatʼs being done to protect this precious water resource.
$90 ticket price (available here) includes:

  • Transportation (school bus) for the whole day.

  • Talk by brewery reps or owners and behind-the-scenes at each brewery.

The Schaumburg RAM will host its first release day for CHAOS Imperial Stout.

Our first tap takeover for 2016 will be with a small producer from San Jose, California: Almanac Beer Co. They are known for their series called Farm to Barrel, in which they source fruit from small, local farms to use in their wine barrel aged, sour beers.
A representative from the brewery will be on hand to sample their beers and hand out some fun swag!

Local Option will be host “A Tribute To Scarface”. The event is intended to fulfill two objectives: first to give thanks to Al Capone (on his 116th birthday) for putting his adopted city Chicago on the map as the world capital for murder, bootlegging liquor, and prostitution. The second objective is to enhance Crook County’s existing reputation by assembling a draft list that will render the most well traveled beer enthusiast dumbfounded.
The draft list for “A Tribute To Scarface” includes highly regarded and sought after releases from AleSmith, Alvinne, Almanac, Logsdon, Pipeworks, Three Floyds and more. Attendees who enter Capone’s Castle dressed as flappers will receive a complementary ass tapping, just like the old days.
