Get out your scorecards, folks, we have a few name changes, splits, and even a merger.
51st Ward Beer Company
This is a new venture started by Tim Hoerman, who had been brewer and co-founder at Westmont’s Urban Legend Brewing. There were apparently some conflicts about management, which led to some court filings, but an amicable resolution. Hoerman retains the beer names and recipes he created, including the Imperial Stout Krispy Karl and its variations, and “The Mayor of Doodyville,” a collaboration with Waukegan’s ZümBier. Hoerman has indicated he is investigating either contract brewing or seeking financing to get some stainless of his own.
Strange Pelican Brewing, which purchased 4 Paws Lincoln Square brewery in January, is changing its name after legal pressure from Oregon’s Pelican Pub and Brewing. Their brewing venture is henceforth known as Aquanaut Brewing Co. They still anticipate opening their brewhouse at 5435 N. Wolcott Ave., perhaps in time for Chicago Craft Beer Week.
Rude Hippo Brewing Company is a newly formed joint venture between two homebrewing pairs: Twisted Hippo and Rude Boy Brewing. Both homebrewers had poured their wares at private events and gallery openings. The combined venture will be contract brewing at 18th Street Brewery in Gary, and is currently shooting a video for a crowdfunding campaign.
Just a reminder that you have until Wednesday, May 14 to enter for your chance to win a pair of tickets to the Lagunitas Beer Circus. Details at this article.
I have so many projects burning my time that I may actually put the calendar on hiatus during Chicago Craft Beer Week. I figure they will have their usual busy schedule, so why stay up until 1 am each night just duplicating the effort. And maybe afterward I can talk some more about my projects.
