Bulletin 5/14: The entries have closed, and now my imaginary hostess 1980’s Vanna is spinning the random entry picker…
…She shakes the randomizer ten times, no more, no less…
…A-a-a-and the winner is… Jose Chavez! Who sent us an entry us all the way from the land of Gmail! That’s out of a total of 121 (non-duplicate) entries.
Thank you to everyone for playing! I hope you can still find time to attend the event, or any of a hundred Chicago Craft Beer Week events going on starting Thursday!
Bulletin: Tickets for the Saturday edition of the Beer Circus are now sold out! Sunday tickets are still open as of this writing, which means the winner will have to be available to attend on Sunday.
We’re over 100 entries for the drawing, but I should have mentioned this at the start: please, one entry per person!
Hey, friends and strangers, Lagunitas is finally opening the doors to its new Chicago brewery with the first midwest edition of their Lagunitas Beer Circus!
The event takes place Saturday and Sunday, May 17 and 18 from noon to 5:00 pm at the brewery, 1843 S. Washtenaw Ave., just 2 blocks west of Western Ave. (it’s Douglas Park, if you;re really up on your Chicago neighborhoods). Yup, it’s park of Chicago Craft Beer Week.
The guys from Petaluma promise this event will be “a freaktacular afternoon with over 70+ world-‐class circus arts performers, local beer, burlesque, carnival rides, large-‐scale art and more.”
The circus part features acts by Vau de Vire Society, the Squidling Brothers Sideshow, Redmoon, and more. Live music includes Mucca Pazza and Cornmeal.Beerwise, taps will be flowing with Lagunitas of course, but also with representation from other Chicago craft breweries, including Ale Syndicate, Begyle, Finch’s, Illuminated Brew Works, Lake Effect, Metropolitan, Revolution, and Une Année. Here’s a video of the 2013 Beer Circus at Lagunitas’ home town:
I don’t know about funnel cakes, but you can chow on viands from local food trucks including Tamale Spaceship, Chicago Patty Wagon, Beavers Donuts, Giordano’s, Haute Sausage, Bridgeport Pasty, Fat Shallot, Cheesies, and Husky Hog!
Tickets are $40 each through the Beer Circus site, which gets you 4 beers and all of the entertainment you can handle. Proceeds from the Beer Circus benefit Rock for Kids, which provides music education to underserved children in Chicago. 21+ over only.
Once again, in return for talking up this event, I have a pair of tickets to give away! Now, I’ve gotten many nice compliments when I do a giveaway, and even the Lagunitas PR guys has kind words about the Beeronaut’s calendar of events. And in this case, he’s offered the tickets as a giveaway before offering to comp me (I strive for transparency, after all). But what with kids and many projects on the burner, I’d rather make sure someone reading my tortured prose gets to go.
I’m trying a different procedure to give out the “Annie Oakleys.” Going through the Facebook comments page has meant I had to try and “friend” the winner to get their email to the folks handling the tickets. Admittedly great for my page ranks, but I run the chance of not getting the winner hooked up in time. So this time, I will have to ask for an email address up front.
I have a Google Form set up at the button disguised as an internet meme to the right. You’ll be asked to leave a name and a proper email address, which only you and I will see. Deadline for entries at 8 pm Wednesday, May 14. I’ll then shuffle the names to pick a winner at random for two tickets.
I will NOT use your email to spam you, nor will I sell or give away your address for any purpose. If you’ve won tickets from me before, please sit back and let someone else have a chance.
You’re still free to leave comments via Facebook below, of course. With my last giveaway, some people entered via email or commented on my Facebook PAGE instead in the comments list below, and I had to disqualify them. And in case it isn’t clear or obvious, 21 and OVER, PLEASE!
So please do get your freak on to welcome a new major beer player to our town!
