Boycotting the State of the Union Address

Nope. I will not be watching the State of the Union Address tonight.

This won’t be a surprise to my friends, colleagues, and family. They all know where I stand on the impeachment of Donald J. Trump.

To those who don’t, let me be clear. I believe it was necessary and long overdue.

This blog began as an experiment to reach out into the world and speak with people around the world about their everyday lives and perspectives. It was never meant to be used as platform for my views. But because so many of my contacts around the world are asking, I need to clarify:no I do not respect the man in the White House.

My dislike for President Trump has long tethers. It goes beyond his reprehensible disregard for the country’s national security and our allies in pursuit of his own agenda. The agenda that got him impeached. It goes all the way back to the first days of his presidency, when his vile offenses first surfaced.  They are so numerous, so well known, it is pointless to list them here. Suffice to say he quickly showed himself to be coarse and ignorant. Vengeful and petty. Instead of uniting and inspiring the people, his rhetoric incites them to violence. He has given me countless reasons to believe he does not and never has deserved the title he has been given.

But then he went too far.

I know the odds are stacked in his favor. Even though he has been impeached, it is unlikely he will be convicted and removed from office for his abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. I would very much like to be proven wrong, but I am not holding my breath. That is nothing new. Over the course of this man’s presidency, I have signed petitions, marched, and been vocal about the outrages he has perpetuated. I have watched countless hours of testimony. I have checked and triple checked his lies. Each day, I am saddened, weary, and bewildered by his behavior.  I know I am not alone.

As maddening as it is bizarre, this man will be giving the State of the Union address tonight. An act I feel is the height of hypocrisy for such a corrupt, impeached president.

I will NOT be watching. I will be joining many others in not doing so.

And I urge all Americans who are tired of watching this tyrant spin his lies to do the same.
